Title: Big Tex wants 10

TheHugeUnit - August 2, 2008 07:48 PM (GMT)
Teixera noted today he wanted a 10 year deal in the off season. I don't know the money figures, but damn thats a lot of years. He's 'only' 28, but still. Who would want him for 10?

Ranger_4 - August 3, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
Yeah that's just insane.

Marlinschamps03 - August 3, 2008 12:44 AM (GMT)
I doubt he gets 10 but he could get 8 or so years.

Ranger_4 - August 3, 2008 12:45 AM (GMT)
He would be better off trying for fewer years and getting more money throughout.

Junkyard Dog - August 3, 2008 12:47 AM (GMT)
Why not? He's like 27 isn't he? Beltran got that type of deal, right? Why not Teiexeria?

TheHugeUnit - August 3, 2008 12:48 AM (GMT)
He probably figures with the mets and yankees looking for 1B and their new stadiums. He can get the years and money.

I wanted him so much for the Yankees, but for 10 years? Go to the mets you bastard.

mpic92 - August 3, 2008 01:05 AM (GMT)
Well he's a great player with many big years ahead of him. Of course, a 10-year deal to anyone is a little excessive, but in this situation it's certainly possible. I wouldn't go above 8 years though, if that.

Tribe No 1 Fan - August 3, 2008 01:12 AM (GMT)
Ehhh, 10 years is wayyy too much. Maybe 6.

jaysdude09 - August 3, 2008 01:17 AM (GMT)
He's going to NY

Bo_ - August 3, 2008 03:19 AM (GMT)
No one's immune to a career ending injury, 10 years is asinine.

jaysdude09 - August 3, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
Nick Punto is immune to a career ending injury because he never had a "career" to start with.

He's a professional tail battler.

Yeah, but didn't beltran get that? he's just looking to get what other elite F.A.'s have gotten in the past year or two

webgem924 - August 3, 2008 04:13 AM (GMT)

A-Rod > Tex.

Mets Rule - August 3, 2008 01:39 PM (GMT)
Yeah, 10 is insane. I'd give him 8, nothing more.

steveox - August 3, 2008 03:14 PM (GMT)

Right. And the Nationals are going all the way this year.

Bloss - August 3, 2008 06:07 PM (GMT)
A 10 year 247 million dollar contract. Why not, inflation will make that deal look good at the back end of the contract.

please tell me you're joking

Bloss - August 3, 2008 06:58 PM (GMT)
Whats wrong with that?

TheHugeUnit - August 3, 2008 06:59 PM (GMT)
Are you offering that as the Twins or Os? Also 24 million a year seems like a lot for Tex, for 10 years that way to much as well.

Bloss - August 3, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
I wish the Twins would spend that kind of money. Tex is a career .285 hitter with almost 200 HR and he is a switch hitter. All 10 years don't have to be guaranteed, you could have 2 or 3 club option years to a 7 or 8 year contract. If that makes since.

milehighrox - August 3, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
I wish the Rangers had money. I loved him in Texas.

Ranger_4 - August 3, 2008 11:08 PM (GMT)
We offered him a huge contract before he was traded and he turned it down.

OriolesManiac88 - August 4, 2008 12:53 AM (GMT)
No way is he getting 10 years. When has Boras ever got what he first asked for? He always asks for the moon with his clients. Thats what a good agent does for his client.

If im the O's, the max id be willing to go is 8 years 160 mil. If its any higher, so be it. Let him sign elsewhere. Whens all said and done, I see him signing a 7-8 year deal worth 17-19 mil a season.

TheHugeUnit - August 4, 2008 01:23 AM (GMT)
He'll get 20 million with so many people after him. Look the O's 'want' him. Yankees, Mets, Angels need him plus you got wild card teams, theres always one or two. Giants had no problem giving Zito 17, so why not spend money on something you need?

And Tex has always mentioned the idea of playing for the O's back home. That could be a big part in his final decision.

Want my opinion...I hate to say it....but he will be in pinstripes next year. Either that or he will re-sign with the Halos.
