Title: Dodgers enter Mannyfest with Either

TheHugeUnit - July 31, 2008 06:44 PM (GMT)
According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Dodgers are back in on the Manny Ramirez talks, but they're offering Andre Ethier, not Matt Kemp.

This after Heyman said last night that the Dodgers had made it clear they were willing to trade Kemp for Ramirez. The Red Sox would surely prefer the right-handed hitter and are likely to hold out for him.

If the Dodgers were able to land Maddux and Manny today, I'd say they'd have a pretty shot to win the NL.

According to Jayson Stark, Maddux seems unlikely:
QUOTE
Maybe Greg Maddux isn't going to wind up back with the Dodgers after all. The Dodgers and Padres have always been uncomfortable making deals with each other. And with 90 minutes left until the deadline, they've been unable to reach agreement on a trade that would send Maddux back to L.A., the only team he has told the Padres to which he would approve a deal.

One source familiar with the two clubs' discussions say the $3.3 million remaining on Maddux's salary this year is not a major issue. But the Dodgers have been unwilling to make anything beyond a modest offer, obviously because they're clearly aware they're the only taker.

I'd do it for Ethier and Laroche, wooo.

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman

I could finish that sentence with so many totally off-the-wall, outlandish, completely idiotic comments that are so ridiculous that Heyman had to make them up himself.

Instead, I'll just say that seeing that prefix to any sentence is a good indicator that you should run away from it as quickly as possible.

West or pennant? Because even so they'd be nowhere close to the other top NL teams.

TheHugeUnit - July 31, 2008 07:40 PM (GMT)
A source told SI.com's Jon Heyman that not only are the Dodgers not offering Matt Kemp for Manny Ramirez, but that they're looking to part with prospects instead of Andre Ethier.

So both Andruw Jones and Ethier could ride the pine for the rest of the season? That makes little sense. For what it's worth, Heyman says Ramirez has approved deals to the Marlins, Dodgers and any other team.

Manny to the Dodgers
Bay to the Red Sox
Either or LaRoche to the Pirates

Heres the deal.

Pirates outfielder Jason Bay is headed to the Red Sox. The Pirates will receive Andy LaRoche and right-hander Bryan Morris from the Dodgers and outfielder Brandon and releiver Craig Hansen from the Red Sox.

Red Sox get Jason Bay
Dodgers get Manny Ramirez
Pitt gets Andy Laroche, Craig Hansen, Brandon Moss and another dodgers minor leaguer

TheHugeUnit - July 31, 2008 08:48 PM (GMT)
Red Sox will pay the $7 million left on manny's contract.

NateFizzle - July 31, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
Eh... at least by the time the Padres have a chance at the division again Manny will probably leave or not be effective anymore.

The Dodgers don't make a trade like this unless they're sure that Manny will want to be in Los Angeles and they have two options on him which they will then pick up. So much for any chance the Blue Jays would've had in signing him.

The options have been eliminated in the trade to LA, Manny only started his shit so he could get to FA next year.

lol, nice.

If he's not signed, then Mets or Yankees are signing him...

YankeeNation - August 1, 2008 04:17 PM (GMT)
Mets can have him. The Yankees don't need another overpaid veteran to slow down the OF.

I thought that would only happen in a trade to Florida. The Dodgers don't give up LaRoche and the other guy for a two month rental player. What we do know for sure si that he gets a $1 mil bonus for being traded.

And Ned Coletti specifically said they have no options on Manny,

I don't know if he's been more clear on the topic elsewhere, but he beat pretty closely around the bush on BBTN.

The press conference at Dodger Stadium yesterday, Manny wasn't waiving his 10/5 if they weren't taken out of play.

Yeah, I found it: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-r...ov=ap&type=lgns

Just have to make sure before people start maniping him into many different jerseys. I also saw that he's wearing number 99.

Is 99 gonna stick?

No he is changing to number 30 today and he's suppose to cut his hair as well.
