Title: Jays on Bay

TheHugeUnit - July 31, 2008 03:56 PM (GMT)
As the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates continue to try to piece together their Manny Ramirez-Jason Bay blockbuster, the buzz around the sport is that the Pirates are still talking to other teams about Bay.

The latest team to make a run is Toronto. It seems doubtful that the Blue Jays would give up the three-prospect package Pittsburgh is looking for, almost certainly starting with outfield phenom Travis Snider. But Toronto and Pittsburgh were still talking as of Thursday afternoon.

Would be a good move for them, they need to make a push. The deal will be centered around Snider or a Lind/Cecil package.

Rockshu - July 31, 2008 05:07 PM (GMT)
I just saw this on Rotoworld and couldn't help but LOL.

Snider isn't going anywhere, and Lind is hitting like .330 since his callup. Replacing Lind with Bay isn't going to help our team, what we need to do is replace Stairs with Bay. I could deal with parting with Cecil since he's been starting for over a year now and still has an 80 pitch maximum and another prospect, but not Lind or Snider.

Rockshu - July 31, 2008 06:11 PM (GMT)
And also it says that the Pirates "want" Snider or Lind/Cecil. Negotiations would definitely not start there.

Rockshu - July 31, 2008 06:13 PM (GMT)
We've also apparently checked into Raul Ibanez's price and LOL'd

Yeah that's why I don't want to give up anything good.

Wow Pirates wanted Marcum and Snider.

They're good at making deals

I wouldn't move Cecil for Bay straight up.

I wouldn't even trade one of them straight up for Bay. We are not in a position to win at the moment and Snider has much more potential than Bay, and Marcum is a stud.

Crushed Optimism - July 31, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
snider 4 ibanez

Why? He's got frontline potential...and has a really really good chance of reaching that.

I might consider it tho, but its not something I'd do in a heartbeat.

I would do Cooper for Bay tho

He doesn't have front of the rotation potential.. he's got a plus slider and an average fastball. That's #3 potential, and considering he's been starting for over a year now and still can't consistently go 6+ innings, he's a long way away from even becoming that.

In a Cecil+ for Bay deal, we get an impact bat for the rest of 2008 and all of 2009 for a total of 10M between the 2 seasons. At the end of 2009 we either re-sign him and keep our offense together, or let him walk so Travis Snider can replace him and get a 1st round pick as well as a supplemental round pick. You can easily replace a guy like Cecil with those picks.

Rockshu - July 31, 2008 07:14 PM (GMT)
Wow, rumor is the Rays are going to accept Brignac and Niemann.

Niemann is nothing special and I'm not sold on Brignac. It's a shame they had to burn their bridge with JP, I'm sure he could have come up with something better than that offer.

TheHugeUnit - July 31, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
With bay going to the Rays, Jays stepped up on Rual Ibanez.

Umm what?

He's got a plus fastball, plus plus slider, and has great pose and goes after hitters. His changeup is developing and it can be average He's like BJ Ryan but as a starter

He was converted from closer so I think JP wants to keep his innings under control, thats why he's not going 7-8 innigns and staying at 5-6.

Future stud.

92 mph fastball isn't plus. Stop making up your own scouting reports and try reading some from actual scouts.

Rockshu - July 31, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
And he doesn't have great poise, he's known to have temper tantrums on the mound. Seriously, do you even know anything about this kid or do you just pull shit out of your ass and call it fact?

Because we all know velo is the only thing that matters when grading a pitch right?

What the hell are you talking about....he goes after hitters and has the "bulldog" demeanor or whatever the hell term is

jaysdude09 - July 31, 2008 07:31 PM (GMT)

It's hard to have a plus fastball when it sits in the low 90's.

Ah yes, the monstrous difference between + and ++. Gotcha.

TheHugeUnit - July 31, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
From scouting reports on him, he seems to be what you think Phil Hughes is. Sits around 91-92, can touch 94 with a plus pitch. Who did you say that was, Arroyo?

90-93 fastball that touches 96. Good downward movement also induces a lot of groundballs. All this from the left side.

Not only is it plainly obvious to grade that as a plus, but actual scouts have said its a plus.

Phil Hughes was supposed to be like 93-95 or something but I saw him pitch for 2 starts and he barely hit 90. I think he topped out at 90 lol, and I don't want any Yankee prospects to do well because you guys keep winning and rake in prospects.

He's threw 92 when he was up, touched 93. He's pitching 94 out of the gate after sitting around for 6 or 7 weeks.

Please show me one credible scout who calls his fastball a plus pitch.

Rumros are if you land Ibanez yuo will try to trade Lind for somethng else and maybe Stairs, but I can't see all of that happening in the next 20 mins.

I'd be willing to trade spare parts for Ibanez then ship Stairs to the Marlins for marbles, but I don't see what we could possibly gain from trading Lind.

TheHugeUnit - July 31, 2008 07:45 PM (GMT)
Ibanez trade is dead, you guys had a 2 for 1 deal in place but the M's backed out of it.

J.P. can't be that stupid. I don't think he'll give up Lind for a rental DH but then again, he probably thinks his ass in on the line if he doesn't make the playoffs.

Rockshu what do you define as a plus fastball from a LHP?
