Title: Sell Now
KeepTheFaith - July 30, 2008 03:51 AM (GMT)
Lowell, Manny, Varitek, Drew, Youkilis, Crisp, etc.
Sell now and see what you can get, please. Bring in the prospects, free up the money for this offseason. This team as constituted is not a playoff caliber team and a first round exit even if we make it, and they're not one bullpen arm away from being one either.

I wouldnt be too upset tbh u just won the damn world series lol
KeepTheFaith - July 30, 2008 04:09 AM (GMT)
Pedro Feliz just went on the DL. Trade Lowell to Philly and pick up their Lou Marsons and such. Get Andy Laroche from LAD for whatever.

This team is just like the 05/06 teams, they could make the playoffs but they won't win a world series, the 06 team may have made the playoffs without the injuries.
Mets Rule - July 30, 2008 04:13 AM (GMT)
Radical insane idea:
Mets get: Manny Ramirez
Red Sox get: Fernando Martinez, Jason Bay
Pirates get: George Kottaras, Bobby Parnell
KeepTheFaith - July 30, 2008 04:14 AM (GMT)
I'd do it in a heartbeat, Kottaras is a non-prospect at this point though, they'd need someone better.
Mets Rule - July 30, 2008 04:15 AM (GMT)
Pirates are known to love him. Possibly Masterson tacked on?
KeepTheFaith - July 30, 2008 04:16 AM (GMT)
Noooo
edit: actually, Masterson wouldn't be horrible considering we're landing Bay and F-Mart and Bowden probably has similar value right now, he's a legit top prospect.
Mets Rule - July 30, 2008 04:20 AM (GMT)
Mets get: Ramirez
Red Sox get: FMart, Bay
Pirates get: Kottaras, Brandon Moss, Parnell
Bo_ - July 30, 2008 04:26 AM (GMT)
wtf? As long as you get to the playoffs you have a good shot. Are you telling me the Cards were built to win in the playoffs when they won? Playoffs are almost a crapshoot, don't throw away your year like that son.

Sure we could get lucky, but that's unlikely and probably won't happen, and would give the FO confidence that major changes don't need to be made. I love our rotation for the future, the offense isn't looking good at all. If we could turn Manny into Kemp at the deadline that'd be awesome. I'd trade Ellsbury and Masterson for Holliday in the offseason, bring in some prospects for Lowell (catching plz), get ANYONE to play shortstop, and we're good.
2009
C- Fag
1B-Youk(tex?)
2B-Pedroia
3B-ANDY LAROCHE!/youk
SS-Lowrie/Fag
LF Bay/Holliday
CF Kemp/Ellsbury
RF Drew/Kemp
DH Ortiz
Bo_ - July 30, 2008 04:55 AM (GMT)
I guess I can't get on you for wanting to dump Lowell. The Twins are getting Laroche though. (lolololol)

Lol this made me laugh. Pirates getting shit on as usual
Mets Rule - July 30, 2008 05:05 AM (GMT)
Read on some website that the Pirates are really really high on Kottaras. But the Mets don't even want to trade Parnell, so it's decent. He's got a 92-94 MPH sinker with an ML ready slider as an out pitch.
Rockshu - July 30, 2008 05:14 AM (GMT)
I could see:
Mets get Ramirez
Red Sox get Bay, Mets prospect
Pirates get Martinez, Red Sox prospect
TheHugeUnit - July 30, 2008 06:14 AM (GMT)
You don't have enough time to do that, there would be riots in boston if that happened too.
KeepTheFaith - July 30, 2008 12:07 PM (GMT)
There's enough time to get Manny out of here for Kemp.
TheHugeUnit - July 30, 2008 02:21 PM (GMT)
Well manny, but not half your team.
YankeeNation - July 30, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
I'm suprised to hear this. They are in contention still and I'm figuring they'll get either the WC or the Division. I figures maybe Manny would go, but not sell off everyone.

Mets don't have another prospect other than Martinez that would go fairly along with Bay.
Mets get: Ramirez
Red Sox get: Martinez, Bay
Pirates get: Kottaras, Masterson, Parnell
That's logical AND fair. Red Sox get their mess out of their hair, get a very solid player back in return and an uber-prospect, Pirates get one very legit prospect, another one not far behind, and a catcher they love.
Mets without a doubt have the best lineup in the NL if Church comes back. Everyone wins!
redsoxabstract - July 30, 2008 03:56 PM (GMT)
Dude, the last thing the Red Sox need to do is sell right now. They'll probably end up winning the division, and after that its a total crapshoot. There is no such thing as a team that is built to win in the playoffs. Power pitching at the top of the rotation and power probably helps, but even if that is the criteria I don't see where Boston is lacking. The playoffs are about who gets lucky over a short series.

Very, very good post. These short series...it does involve a TON of luck, but it also involves at least one horse - and the Sox have that - Beckett.
KeepTheFaith - July 30, 2008 05:47 PM (GMT)
We dont have the offense and we lose to every decent team we play...
Crushed Optimism - July 30, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
The difference between Red Sox fans and Mariners fans is that the Sox fans want to sell when they're guarenteed (almost) a playoff spot, but not much more. If the M's SNIFF the playoffs, as in within 10 games of the Angels, shit ... we're gonna buy. Haha.

vs Detroit, 5-2
vs Angels, 1-7
vs Twins, 4-3
vs Yankes, 6-6
vs A's, 3-4
vs Rays, 6-6
vs Brewers, 3-0
Basically, they've been bad enough against one team for it to actually mean anything. And even that's a very inconclusive 8 games.
RedSox9 - July 30, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
KTF, were you high or something when you made that post?
Lowell and Youk are still valuable for this team, and Youk is having carrer numbers. Varitek is one of the best catchers despite his hitting woes. We shouldn't trade any of them, and then become the Kansas City Royals. The only person who really needs to go is Manny/Crisp and that's at the end of the year. JD Drew is also having a good year this year and shouldn't be traded since then we would have no one to bat behind Ortiz if Manny leaves.

No I wasn't high, this offense is growing old and ineffective, Ellsbury and Pedroia are nice players but they're not impact guys, we need impact guys.
KeepTheFaith - July 30, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
Whatever, I guess we'll have to wait till October to see my point. This team as constituted, is a border-line playoff team, but they are by no means a world series contender. This offense is old, declining, and inconsistent, I really don't see how anyone doesn't see that, we have two young hitters and neither of them are really a huge impact.

Again, the playoffs are luck. Look at the Cardinals two seasons ago, they weren't even good enough to be considered a borderline playoff team, but because almighty circumstance stuck them in a division where no other team was within shouting distance of .500, they got in. So that Cardinal team, that wasn't even a playoff team in any normal season, was a world series contender?
Absolutely anything can happen in a short series.

Manny's EqA is .305. Bay's EqA is .320. Bay is an upgrade.
And there is nothing about Youk's numbers that suggest he is overperforming. He's always been an OBP god, and with that patience comes good peripheral numbers. He absolutely does not swing at bad pitches. His BABIP is pretty average, and there are no crazy splits or anything. Youk is just awesome. This is the player people have thought he would be since like 2002.
And while we're talking about over/underperforming, don't forget to mention Ortiz, who has missed time and is playing well below his averages. Getting a healthy Papi back is a bigger addition than the Angels got with Tex.
RedSox9 - August 2, 2008 03:52 AM (GMT)
Just to add to the topic, Bay gets a triple in extras and scores the running run. Glad to see we have a LF who runs his ass out on the bases.
