Title: Kotchman/Teixeira Deal
jaysdude09 - July 29, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
Looks like something around those 2 players will happen. GREAT Trade for the Angels, and even better trade if they resign Tex which could happen. Sucks for me because the Angels park is a pitchers park.
win2day - July 29, 2008 09:57 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Kotchman and a pitching prospect. I'm guessing Adenhart or Walden.
redsoxabstract - July 29, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
Adenhart should be acceptable for Braves fans.

I would take Walden.
redsoxabstract - July 29, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
It's neither. Marek is supposedly the guy.
win2day - July 29, 2008 10:07 PM (GMT)
Hahaa the Braves got hosed.
Marek is a RP prospect in the future. Atleast Walden or Adenhart had some potential.
For 1 year of playing at 1B, the Braves turned Feliz, Andrus, Harrison, and Salty into Kotchman and Marek.
Ouch.
Good deal for the Angels. Marek was expendable, and Tex is a much better player than Kotchman. Now I hope Boras leads him to free agency.
redsoxabstract - July 29, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
Yeah, move over Brian Sabean. Everything involving Teixeira makes Frank Wren baseball's current worst GM.
Paul Depodesta is doing some lowly number crunching for Sandy Alderson, and this guy is running a baseball team. That seems right.

I think the braves wouldve been better off taking 2 draft picks.
Tribe No 1 Fan - July 29, 2008 11:17 PM (GMT)
The Angels must've bought the Braves' GM a bunch of tickets to Disney Land along with a ton of ice cream in order to make a deal like this. Or spiked his drink or something.
TheHugeUnit - July 29, 2008 11:22 PM (GMT)
Angels have a pretty good lineup but they're going to have a busy off-season in this year.
jaysdude09 - July 29, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
This makes the Jurrjens deal he pulled off a fluke
Rockshu - July 30, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
Uhh.. he did what he could. There was no chance the Braves were gonna re-sign Tex, and he managed to get a capable first baseman as well as a potential closer in a couple of years. When you compare this deal to the deal that the Braves acquired Teixeira it looks pretty horrible, but if you take into account he's trading a 2 month rental for a good player with a cheap contract and a decent prospect, it's not that bad.

Antonetti, Forst, Depodesta or Hoyer.

He didn't do the 5-2 with Teixeira. That was JS.
If you think about it like Rockshu did, he traded a rental for a young 1B that we have control over for a while, plus a decent prospect, its not that bad. The chance of us resigning were very slim.
Also traded Edgar Renteria, whose hitting .261 with 5 homers, for Jair Jurrjens, and Gorkys Hernandez, who was on the World team.
I guess I just don't understand how he can be considered the worst GM.

I just want DePo to have a job. Preferably one where he can beat the Dodgers more than 10 times a year.
And ajones25, I'm dumb. I didn't realize that it was Schuerholz that made the original deal for Tex. I wouldn't call Marek a decent prospect though.

Oh, ok, its cool. But he was ranked 5th and 6th best prospect in the Angels organization 2 years running, I would say he's at least decent.

Yeah he's decent for sure. He's got a good future in the bullpen.
milehighrox - July 31, 2008 01:42 AM (GMT)
Atlanta did as well as they could. Ultimately, they should've stuck with Salty, Andrus, Feliz and the rest... but, what's happened has happened. Kotchman is decent. He's got a slick glove. I'm glad my Rox won't have to go through that devastating duo of switch hitting corner infielders now.
Crushed Optimism - July 31, 2008 01:48 AM (GMT)
Anyone who says ATL did the best they could is wrong. Frankly, Atlanta would have got more back if they let Teix walk at the end of the year, because he's no doubt a type A FA.
