Title: How does ESPN stay in business?
TheHugeUnit - July 28, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
I'm sitting here, just turned on the Yankees-Red Sox game, noticed it was on ESPN tonight. I was like FUCK John Miller and Joe Morgan. Well Morgan isn't there, but Steve Phillips is. My questions is with idiots like Morgan, Phillips, Gammons, Miller and the BT crowd. How is it possible to even watch this station?
jaysdude09 - July 28, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
I dont know, but I think we need Barry Bonds to call a game. It will be fun no question
Bloss - July 28, 2008 01:49 AM (GMT)
I just dont listen to them
Bo_ - July 28, 2008 02:11 AM (GMT)
Gammons is always wrong about everything, but for some reason I don't mind him. Phillips doesn't seem that dumb, I can stand his analysis. The rest of ESPN is retarded. I could also write a five paragraph essay on how SportsCenter has gone down teh drain.

The Canadian version of Sportscenter, "Sportscentre" (see what they did with the er on the end?) is actually half decent.
amped3 - July 28, 2008 03:00 AM (GMT)
Gammons, Olney, and Kruk are the only guys worth a crap. Gammons and Olney have a good idea what's going on, and Kruk is just plain funny. They miss Harold Reynolds big time though.

We got him now!!!
milehighrox - July 28, 2008 03:48 AM (GMT)
What's wrong with Miller? He's just the play by play.
amped3 - July 28, 2008 03:48 AM (GMT)
^ Miller and Morgan never shut up.

A Dan Shulman-Will Carroll crew on Sunday Night Baseball would double ratings just by the reputations of those two men.
YankeeNation - July 28, 2008 01:22 PM (GMT)
They sometimes say the stupidest things though, Miller and Morgan.

Phillips is horrible, but he was a nice break from Joe.
I like Gammo, even though he does say some pretty stupid stuff sometimes.

The Score guys are the best in Toronto but they don't do baseball.
Tim McCallif, Greg Sansoni, Cabby commentating a game = win
Rockshu - July 28, 2008 07:52 PM (GMT)
Tim does pretty good play by play with the college games, and I think he did Expos games back in the day. I'm sure he could pull it off.
Crushed Optimism - July 28, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
Kevin Calabro is hella tight. He was the Sonics play by play guy, and did a few Mariners games over the years. I thought he was really really good, and with a little seasoning could be a really legit baseball broadcaster. Maybe he can come in when Niehaus retires. Better than Simms. He's gonna do the Seattle Sounders FC now tho. But there's a sports whore right there, that takes a lot of knowledge to be able to broadcast for 3 major sports.
Junkyard Dog - July 28, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
Orel Hershisher is the worst of them all. Morgan, Miller are fine. Phillips is pretty bad...Gammons knows a good amount about the game, but I've never been a huge fan...

Am I the only one who likes Steve Berthiaume?

Nah. Joe Morgan knows his stuff. I can see how people wouldn't like Miller, he gets really annoying at times.

Joe never ever ever says anything remotely conclusive. And every ten minutes he forces praise on one of the '76 Reds, Gary Sheffield, or Robby Cano. He insists that Billy Beane wrote the book Moneyball himself, and only bases his "conclusions" on teams he has personally watched, which is bad because he only watches one game per week.

Yeah Carlos Santana as one of the top catchers in the minors? He's been hot this year, but come on.

DAMN TEENAGERS AND SUCH

redsoxabstract - July 28, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
You can't blame the teenagers for being though so damned. They have never had any truely grate teams to see. But now with such mediocrity and parody and such, teams aren't going to be greate. But some teams are great. For example the '76 Reds had great leaders who were consistent. No teams are consistent anymore. Young players don't concetrate. But there are good young players, like Gary Sheffield or RoCa. But damn the teenagers.

It was gammons.
win2day - July 29, 2008 05:16 AM (GMT)
I can't stand Joe Morgan, he's like the baseball version of John Madden. "Well, we've seen in the past 2 weeks, the Yankees are GOOD". We no really? Only think I like about Morgan is the way he says "Mariano Rivera" with a little accent. I hate ESPN games. I hate Gammons to begin with.
I can't stand the idiots from Fox either. "Yes, Craig Hansen will be in high demand, you can see why the RedSox took him early in the draft". They just don't know much about baseball. Its like they don't follow baseball, and just go with some tidbits they get before the game.

Gammons talks like the Red Sox have the deepest farm and can pull off any trade at any time, but they shouldn't they should try to fix masterson, delcarmen, okijema, etc.
jaysdude09 - July 29, 2008 04:44 PM (GMT)
Is there any commentator in baseball who knows about farm systems and minors and stuff like that?
TheHugeUnit - July 29, 2008 05:54 PM (GMT)
Well Kay knows a lot about the Yankees, but I dislike his use of Whites name when he says Hughes, Horne, Joba, Heredia, etc.
TheHugeUnit - August 2, 2008 10:17 PM (GMT)
How can anyone defend Gammons after that BS about how manny played in boston these past few weeks is worse than using HGH, steroids and cheating.

http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index...3dgammons_peterIts funny since he backed up manny even on the day of the trade. So much so him and Phillips got into an on air battle on TV.
Bo_ - August 3, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
LOL, I saw the argument with Phillips that was hilarious.
