Title: Which pitcher do you like?

240 IP, 4.20 ERA, 32 GS

170 IP, 3.50 ERA, 32 GS

Hah, oh shit. I guess the 3.50 ERA

Rockshu - July 23, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
240 IP guy.

The 240 IP guy averages 7.5 innings per start, the 170 IP guy averages 5.3 innings. Meaning every start pitcher A's bullpen throws 1.5 innings, pitcher B's bullpen throws 3.7 innings. Over the course of 32 starts, pitcher A's bullpen throws 48 innings, pitcher B's throws 118.4 innings. With the extra 70 innings of stress, pitcher B's bullpen ERA will be more of a negative difference than pitcher A's starter ERA.

Ill take the 240 IP guy, usually I'll take quality over quantity, but it's not like pitcher b is putting up some ridiculous numbers, so I'll go with the bullpen relief.

redsoxabstract - July 23, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
Pretty much echoing what's already been said..

The difference in ERA doesn't make up for the number of innings (that don't vary in quality too much) you're getting out of Pitcher A. He is keeping the game out of the hands of the bullpen, which are generally crappier pitchers.

I really need DIPS ERA and some relief support numbers to come to a solid conclusion, though. :P

jaysdude09 - July 23, 2008 09:10 PM (GMT)
Yea, I'd take the 240 IP guy as well. I mean, its basically would you rather have 5IP of 2ER starts or 7IP of 3ER ball every time out.

Innings eater especially for the Marlins since we really need to stop overusing our BP.

TheHugeUnit - July 23, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
Is this a one year thing and thats what you will get or do you get that pitcher for your team? how many innings has he thrown in his career and the previous year? Are they fastball pitchers or what?

redsoxabstract - July 23, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
GB/FB%?

KeepTheFaith - July 23, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
It's obviously a one year thing and the other variables shouldnt make any difference since all variables are used as an indicator for runs that will be given up and that's already given.

After having Erik Badard and his 5 innings per start, I'd take mr. 240. Fuck Bedard.

Edgar For Mayor - July 24, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
Gimme some saber numbers and I will let you know.

I am glad that fucker is becmoing one o the evilist players in our franchise. So many fans knew he was going to be a piece of shit, and yet Adam Jones, Chris Tillman and George Sherrill are all Orioles.

Forget Player A and Player B.

Give me Brett Myers.
