Title: My mock
jaysdude09 - June 4, 2008 09:04 PM (GMT)
1) Buster Posey- TBD- Tampa's catcher of the futre.
2) Pedro Alvarez- PIT- They said they'll dish out the money this year
3) Tim Beckham- KC- I don't think KC will resist that IF
4) Brian Matsuz- BAL- They need a starter
5) Gordon Beckham- SFG - Their not going to take Smoak w/Villalona at 1B
6) Kyle Skipworth- FLA- Florida
7) Aaron Crow- CIN- I've seen a lot of mocks where Crow is taken here. I dont know who the Reds should take or what their interests are, but whatever
8) Justin Smoak- CWS- Smoak's not gonna fall down past top 10
9) Shooter Hunt- WAS- Fastball-Curve is a nasty, washington needs more starters
10) Eric Hosmer- HOU- meh, he was either going here or 18th. this guy is unpredictable where he goes.
11) Aaron Hicks- TEX- I heard Texas likes him
12) Yonder Alonso- OAK- Oakland type player
13) Christian Friedrich- STL- Their looking for a pitcher
14) Ethan Martin- MIN- I think minny will go with the high risk/high rewared early, and Martin's just that
15) Josh Fields- LAD- Their team is young and all up in the bigs, and its win time and Fields is perfect to help that pen when Saito starts to suck
16) Tim Melville- MIL- Brewers need to take a pitcher after going hitting strong in every draft forever
17) Brett Wallace- TOR- BEAST
18) Tanner Scheppers- NYM- I know he was injured, but this guy is nasty. He's just a small notch below Crow IMO, and his injury scares me a bit, but I Don't think he'll fall past the first round.
19) Gerrit Cole- CHC- He's good
20) David Cooper- SEA- Seattle needs to get some young bats
21) Zack Collier- DET - With guys like Magglio, Guillen, and Sheff in that lineup, I suspect Detroit would probably want to get some you
22) Ike Davis- NYM- Delgado sucks
23) Isaac Galloway- SDP- He's a nice 5-tool excitement that the boring Pads need
24) Alex Meyer- PHI- I couldn't see him dropping much further
25) Allan Dykstra- COL- They need a future 1B
26) Andrew Cashner- ARI- See Dodgers
27) Jake Odorrizi - MIN- Kid's been filth thus far
28) Casey Kelly- NYY
29) Brett DeVall- CLE
30) Eric Thames- BOS

We pass on Devall and take Kelly, someone who probably will drop like Angelini...
Why would Scheppers get taken so early?
Mets Rule - June 5, 2008 01:19 AM (GMT)
You've got us taking Scheppers with the 18th overall pick? Ok, Omar isn't the best on drafting, but he's not drafting a pitcher with an injured shoulder 18th...
win2day - June 5, 2008 01:34 AM (GMT)
The Houston Astros spent like 200K on their entire draft last year, have no real pitching behind Oswalt, and they take the Boras HS first baseman who wants top flight money. Ok.

This is why Jaysdude fails. If you're gonna make a mock, give explanations for the picks like what THU did.
Bo_ - June 5, 2008 03:25 AM (GMT)
Yeah jd, you suck, god. Stop being gay and put some abrasive comments about the teams drafting skills next to each pick, like THU did. Loser.
jaysdude09 - June 5, 2008 03:25 AM (GMT)
Well, I just wrote some quick notes in 5 minutes. The last 3 picks are a wash for me. I haven't heard anything from Boston, Cleveland, or NYY about who they'll draft....

TheHugeUnit - June 5, 2008 03:38 AM (GMT)
Wheres Hewitt? A possible 80/80/80 should go in the 1st.
Rockshu - June 5, 2008 04:32 AM (GMT)
Wallace sounds a fair bit like Conor Jackson

He could've gone anywhere in the 20's. I like his athleticsm, but his bat has a long long way to go. He reminds me a lot of Justin Jackson, but he's already said that he would like to go to Vanderbilt so idk...

Justin Jackson and the words 80/80/80 have never been in the same sentence before now and they will never be in the same sentence ever again. If a scout says you got a body like Bo Fucking Jackson, thats special.

Anthony Hewitt, SS, Salisbury School (CT): Highest Risk, Highest Reward? I have to confess, Anthony Hewitt is my favorite player in the draft. Not because he’s the best player, mind you, as he’s far from that. It’s because you can’t have a conversation with any scout, scouting director, or team official without Hewitt being proclaimed as quite possibly the messiah once again descending to earth... or an absolutely horrible baseball player. There’s seemingly no in between with Hewitt. It started a couple of weeks ago, when a scout threw a Bo Jackson body comp on him. Just to be clear, there are some teams that don’t even allow Bo Jackson body comps, as he was arguably the only player ever with 80 raw power, 80 speed, and an 80 arm. Then there’s the Hanley Ramirez player comp, the tale of the 500-plus foot home runs, the 4.15 running time to first while slipping out of the box and I’m pretty sure something about him turning water into wine. Then there’s the scouting director who, when I inquired as to his inability to hit the breaking ball, told me, "Breaking balls? Hell, he can’t hit anything." Some say that no player has had a bigger gap between tools and skills in recent draft history, but there are a bunch of teams who can’t find any player they love in the second half of the first round who are deciding to simply gamble on a great athlete with a ton of ceiling, and Hewitt fits that bill perfectly. |
win2day sent me a few socuting reports.
