Title: Drafts about a month away
TheHugeUnit - May 3, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
Who are you hoping your team picks? I liked wallace when everyone thought he'd be a back end in the supp rounds, thought we should nab him with our first, then the bastard has to turn it on and could go top 15, if not higher. I know win2day wants Perry a lot, so I guess I'll root for the Yankees to nab him with our vizcaino pick. For our 1st rounder I'll say either Gerrit Cole, Yonder Alonso or Christian Friedrich.

Could you find a list of the top 30-40 players with stuff about them?
Rockshu - May 3, 2008 03:23 AM (GMT)
Wait, nevermind, I just found exactly what I asked for.

I have a ton of clippings and articles you have to pay for, that you can't c/p. Meh.I can tell you what range your in though. I think your 17th pick, so I'd say you fall in the Ethan Martin-Jamile Weeks range.I doubt you take weeks though since you have a lot of 2B. Maybe you go for Cole, Hunter, Meyer or Hicks. All of them are pitchers, well I think Martin can play 1B or 3B and everyone knows Hicks can play OF.
Rockshu - May 3, 2008 03:32 AM (GMT)
From what I read on Brewerfan.net, I like the sound of Alex Meyer. The problem is, he's a highschool pitcher, and that's really not JP's thing. Damn shame though.
TheHugeUnit - May 3, 2008 03:33 AM (GMT)
When you pick 16th to 22nd in the draft, you know your not going to have a great round. It always seems those guys follow the mold better. By the time you pick the great guys are gone and all thats left is guys that could be good or multi-millionaires you don't have the balls or money to pay.
Meyer could storm up much like Parker did last year.
Crushed Optimism - May 3, 2008 03:38 AM (GMT)
I'd like Yonder if he fell to us. But he won't.
At this point, we should just take the best player available, since all we really have in our system ATM is a stud SS who won't be a SS by the time he's in AAA (Triunfel) and Aumont, whose yearsss away.
I remember in 2005 we took Clement instead of Tulowitsky. I knew that would bite us in the ass, I called it back then. Shit doesn't work out when we take guys by position.

I want Perry. Basically out of the bullpen, he's the next Joba. He's not as good as Joba because he doesn't have the third and 4th plus pitches, but out of the pen, he has a fastball in same upper 90's range with a nasty slider.
I like Gerrit Cole as well.
A quick jumpon next year though, look for Steven Strasburg, many believe he is the David Price of next year.
His numbers so far:
75.1 IP
1.43 ERA
46 H
10 BB
110 K
.177 BAA
0 HR allowed
In one game he struck out 23 batters.

99 mph fastball and killer slider as a starter. He's working on a third pitch I think. But he's the most likely consensus top pitcher for 2009.

WALLACE!!!!!!!!
Seriously, I want the Jays to get this guy at all costs.....but I doubt he'd fall.

Too bad he's still a junior.
win2day - May 3, 2008 03:52 AM (GMT)
He's a sophomore, if he was Junior, he would be in this draft. But yeah, thats why I said its a jump on next year's draft. Numbers are nasty, stuff is nasty, and his control is really good too.

Marlinschamps03 - May 3, 2008 06:45 PM (GMT)
I've really become a fan of Hosmer for the Marlins pick but it seems he's out of the Marlins price range which sucks. I also would like Beckham and maybe Shipworth since he would finally give us a top catcher for the future.

Anyone have the exact order of the draft? Do they do it the same way as the NFL (whereby the WS Champs will get the final pick in the first round)?

Guys look for the name Joe Panik. He's a guy who goes to the High School I'm going to go to and is probably the best in our town. He has a scholarship for Saint Johns but if he gets drafted he'll go to the MLB probably. He's a switch hitting SS.

I keep hearing the name Brett DeVall going to the twins.

TheHugeUnit - May 5, 2008 03:48 PM (GMT)
That's why I love the twins. They never take anything I want and I view them as no threat in the draft. Even though he is a lefty and I'd love to get one.

Crime Dog - May 11, 2008 02:18 PM (GMT)
Give me Pedro Alvarez. I know we've got the Dirt Dog up in the bigs already and doing well, but we need to draft the best talent, regardless of who is already playing for the club. We could always move him around the diamond. I doubt Carlos Pena will be a permanent fixture here after his contract expires, so 1B is always an option. I think Alvarez is solid.
