What do you think about how the picks went?

MIA: Jake Long OT
STL: Chris Long DE
ATL: Matt Ryan QB
OAK: Darren McFadden RB
KC: Glenn Dorsey DT
NYJ: Vernon Gholston DE
NO (From SF through NE): Sedrick Ellis DT
JAX (From BAL): Derrick Harvey DE
CIN: Keith Rivers OLB
NE (From NO): Jerod Mayo OLB

I Like the Jerod Mayo pick- NE is really aging in that category. I don't think Oakland really needed McFadden. I was alittle shocked that Matt Ryan went #3.

Not shocked Matt Ryan went third. The Mike Vick era is officially over... Matt Ryan will get significant playing time this year if he signs early. And the Chiefs were big winners, seeing how Dorsey fell into their lap and they took Branden Albert too. They did a good job replacing Jared Allen. Also surprised the Packers took a QB in round two even though they have Rodgers there.

1. I wanted Gholston, but Long will carry over some chemistry in protecting Chad Henne from college.
2. This guy will never take a play off and that's what separates a good Hall of Famer from a true Hall of Famer.
3. They were looking at scenarios where they could've taken McFadden and traded down but took the franchise QB they needed ever since Aug. '07.
4. The Raiders have a lot of RB's but they do not have an explosive playmaker. Since 1967, the Al Davis had previously selected one RB in the first round, and his name was Marcus Allen.
5. Was completly suprised by this because on TV he looked like he was crying (in sorrow) after he hung up his cell plus his agent patted him on the back like he was saying "don't worry about kid."
6. Damnit, I was hoping he'd go to the Chiefs so I don't have to watch him sack Dolphins QB's two games a year.
7. Could've gotten him at 10 but they thought the Bengals would take him or Dorsey if he fell so they decided to move up. Brilliant move by the Patriots to get younger and replace some of the older veterans they lost in the offseason.
8. Tom Brady was too comfortable in the AFC Division Playoffs last season. They moved up in order to fulfill that need and then drafted Quentin Groves later in the second in order to add more pass rushing depth on the defensive line.
9. A little undersized at linebacker, but he did wear #55 at USC. There were three defensive players drafted out of the school that is traditionally known as an offensive powerhouse, but Pete Carroll's squad probably will lose even more defensive guys near year.
10. Again the Patriots replace old geezers at that position and improve the chances of prolonging their winning ways.

The only real surprise for me was that Jax moved up that much to grab Harvey. I think they woulda probably had to trade up for him no matter what but I didn't think they had to jump all the way to the top 10 to get him though they gave up a lot less then I woulda thought they would have.

Eagles had the best draft.

Very debatable but lets wait till the drafts completely over. ;)

Rockshu - April 27, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
Not really. The only other team who had a GREAT draft was the Chiefs.

Bloss - April 27, 2008 09:00 PM (GMT)

Once again, Andy Reid believes that he can move out of the first round and win ghe NFC East, a division that contains the Super Bowl champs.

I wanted Long, Gholston, or McFadden. Happy I got one of 'em.

As a Gator fan I know he's fast and part of the reason he went so high is thanks to a great workout before the draft. He didn't have that great a season this year but part of that can be blamed on basically all of our other defensive starters from the year before left so they could just concentrate on stopping him. I think he can be a great player on the Jags. ;)

Crime Dog - April 28, 2008 04:33 AM (GMT)
Fins need Tebow next draft. ;)

Marlinschamps03 - April 28, 2008 04:33 AM (GMT)
Oh, and the Chiefs did have the best draft this year and I think my Bucs had a pretty good day 2 considering I think our 1st days draft kinda sucked.

He's gonna stay his senior year so you'll have to wait till 2010 and I don't think you'll want the Dolphins to suck enough to grab him #1 overall in that draft. ;)

Really? When they drafted him the guys were talking about that he's not as fast as you'd expect of an SEC player and was more of a power guy than a speed guy.

We wanted a WR and we got exactly the guy we needed except at a 2nd round value. And we'll have 2 picks in next year's first round, so it's not like we traded our 1st rounder for crap.

Well he's a little of both but he is worth the pick he was selected at. I just didn't expect the Jags to jump up that much to grab him though.

Yeah all I know is what they talked about.

Damn as a Michigan fan, I'd hate to see Gholston on the Jets just because he's a Buckeye.

But after McFadden was off the board, I thought he was the perfect fit for the Jets. His speed off the outside is just nasty, and works well in the 3-4 defense. He reminds me a lot of Mario Williams of Houston, who kinda had the same tag when he came out.

I'll be perfectly fair though, picking up Asaunte Samuel was big. I don't care if "experts' think he's a product of the system, to me he's still a premiere, lightning quick cornerback.

From watching him its safe to say he's not a Champ Bailey kinda back, he's not a shut down corner. I'm not saying he's not good, but I think the Eagles are gonna get less than they paid for.

I don't think he does anything better than Bailey but it's going to be interesting to see who's got the best 1-2 Punch at CB in the league? Oakland, Philadelphia, Baltimore or Green Bay?

Asomugha, and Hall, can't count out Bly and Champ though.

Rockshu - May 1, 2008 03:34 PM (GMT)
I'll take the nickel defense of Samuel, Brown, and Sheppard over any tandem in the league, and it's not even close.

The way I see it, is we can either trade Sheppard now for some 2009 draft picks, or continue to pay his relatively cheap salary for one more years and get some quality defending out of him, then trade him next offseason for some 2009 draft picks. It's pretty obvious what Reid is going to do. We're going to have one of the top-3 secondarys in all of football next year.
