The Miami Dolphins flirtations with Michigan tackle Jake Long over the past few weeks have been well-publicized but this morning, with six days to go before the draft, a league source is indicating that a contract agreement is nearly in place according to NBCsports.com.

Word that Miami initiated talks with Long's agent, Tom Condon, surfaced almost two weeks ago. Condon actually was in South Florida to meet with Dolphins officials. Miami's also made overtures toward Vernon Gholston but little other progress has been mentioned.

Meanwhile, with Jake Long off the board, the St. Louis Rams are a lock to go with defense at No. 2 and, according to the same league source, the camp of Virginia defensive end Chris Long is very confident that's where he'll be headed.

Shit, Bill Parcells was serious? WHY!?!?

I hope they draft a QB in the second round, like Brohm, because John Beck sucks

The game is won in the trenches can't hate on a good LT

No, because part of the contract is that he would go #1...

But if that wasnt in the contract what would happen?

Jake Long wouldn't sign it...

Once he signs it, it's an official contract.

Jake Long is more of a Parcells type of player. I still think the Dolphins should have went with Matt Ryan, but Parcells like veteran QBs.

Tony Romo wasnt a veteran but Parcells still played him. The Dolphins also have a second year QB by the name of John Beck who‘s 27.

I wanted Vernon Gholston to be the selection, but I pulled a Parcells and didn‘t mention it here on this board because I dont want people taking it as a guarantee. I‘m disapointed in a sence that the selection of Gholston would‘ve filled both the spots of OLB and DE, thus a brilliant move by Parcells to kill two birds with one stone. I think, and I stand by it, that Ryan Clady from Boise State would be a better left tackle than Long at the pro level.

I was also planning to by a T-Shirt jersey of whoever went #1 but Orlando Pace went #1 as well (ironicly also a LT) but no store, if any, sells memoribilia of linemen. A lot of people will be making comparisons between the two throughout Long‘s career, that‘s for sure. I also expect Vernon Carey to move from LT to RT.
