Title: Soriano goes on the DL
TheHugeUnit - April 10, 2008 01:30 AM (GMT)
Braves placed RHP Rafael Soriano on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 7, with right elbow tendinitis.
It's going to be hard to take the Braves seriously going forward when it comes to Soriano. This is the second time they've downplayed a supposedly very minor problem. Peter Moylan will be the favorite for saves for the next couple of weeks. Manny Acosta should take over the eighth inning role.

Not a good start to the season for them.

While I don't have any personal buffs against the Braves...its nice to see that they are getting about as much use out of Soriano as we got out of Ramirez.

Smoltz, Hampton, Glavine, James, Gonzalez, Soriano, and Moylan are just our pitchers who've been hurt in these first 12 games.

It looks like Peter Moylan is going to be the closer while Soriano is out.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Peter Moylan (elbow) is scheduled to be examined Wednesday by Dr. James Andrews and "could be out quite a while."
Moylan has been diagnosed with a strained elbow, but the newspaper notes than an MRI "showed irregularities that could indicate a serious injury." Manager Bobby Cox said Tuesday that the Braves "will just mix it up" by using a closer-by-committee approach that includes Manny Acosta, Blaine Boyer and Will Ohman while Moylan and Rafael Soriano are sidelined. Acosta is the favorite for saves.

And BCB don't worry its only the first two weeks man. Did you really think Hampton was going to last? Still plenty time left, plus you could make some trades. Igawa, anyone?

| "All of the symptoms in my mind were sort of there because [the velocity] dropped off and there was no pain," said Cox, who removed Gonzalez from a May 15 game against the Nationals because his normally lively fastball was topping out at 84 mph. |
that's from last year before Mike Gonzalez had TJ surgery.

More important to the Braves than their current three-game losing streak is figuring out the reason why Tim Hudson experienced such a decline in velocity in this latest setback. While allowing the Marlins four earned runs and six hits in just three innings, his fastball was routinely clocked between 83-85 mph, at least seven mph slower than usual.
"I felt all right physically," Hudson said. "It's just one of those nights when I couldn't get anything behind the ball. It's was kind of a weird feeling. My heater is usually a lot better than that. But when I was throwing it, it just didn't come out of my hand good." |
that's from Hudson a few days ago
