Title: Martinez exits with hamstring injury

Home openers have not been kind to Victor Martinez lately.

Martinez left Monday's game against the White Sox in the second inning with left hamstring tightness suffered when he tried to advance from first base to second on a ball in the dirt. He is listed as day-to-day.

Last year, Martinez left the original home opener against the Mariners when he strained his left quadriceps muscle while running to first. That game, called because of snow in the top of the fifth inning, didn't count, but Martinez's injury did. He ended up missing six games because of the quad problem.

Martinez hurt his hamstring while trying to get to second when one of Nick Masset's pitches was thrown in the dirt. Martinez pulled up lame before getting to the bag and was easily tagged out. Before the injury, he had two hits, a run scored and an RBI in two second-inning at-bats.
