Title: Yates traded to Pittsburgh

The Braves have traded reliever Tyler Yates to Pittsburgh for minor-league right-hander Todd Redmond.

Yates, 30, had spent most of the last two seasons with the Braves, going 2-5 with a 3.96 ERA in 50 appearances in 2006 and 2-3 with a 5.18 ERA in a career-high 75 appearances in 2007. He was out of minor-league options.

Yates became expendable with the surplus of arms in the Braves bullpen this spring. That leaves Chris Resop, Blaine Boyer and Royce Ring likely contending for the final two spots in the Braves bullpen.

Sportsline says this about Redmond.

QUOTE
"Redmond is perhaps the Pirates' best pitching prospect. Consider him an option in deeper long-term keeper leagues, but don't expect him to arrive before September at this point. He isn't likely to be a candidate to open 2008 in the Pirates' rotation, needing time in the high minors."

Looks like a pretty good deal for us.

Why would you trade your best "pitching" prospect for Yates
