VERO BEACH, Fla — Los Angeles Dodgers icon Tom Lasorda thanked the fans and residents of Vero Beach before Monday's exhibition game, likely the last one ever at Dodgertown, concluding his remarks by saying, "Don't forget, if you don't pull for the Dodgers, you may not get into heaven."
The line got a chuckle out of the sellout crowd of 7,327, even though they're losing their own little piece of heaven.
The Dodgers' plans to move to a new facility in Glendale, Ariz., by next spring will end a 61-year affiliation with Vero Beach, the spring training home of Hall of Famers such as Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax and Roy Campanella.

The team's assertion that it wants to be closer to its fan base is hard to refute, though a vociferous female fan outfitted in St. Patrick's Day green certainly tried. Through much of the 12-10 loss to the Houston Astros, she stood up and yelled a variation on the "Let's go Dodgers" cheer. This one was more poignant: "Don't go Dodgers."
