Yeah, he got a double off whoever started for the Orioles...then he had a really good at bat in which he walked later on. But pitched great too...

Who doesn't hit well against your Orioles?

Santana's changeup gave me a hardon.

I could hit good against the Orioles...especially with Bedard gone.

So why do we need a DH? I think Baseball should dump the DH and raise the mound 14 inches high.

Well DH is good for players who are getting older and aren't effective in the field but are good hitters. Or just players who flat out suck at fielding.

Because in all honestly, the "experiment" of the 70's has become a way of life now. Also, if the American League tried to drop it, the Player's Association would have an orgy.
But, there is also this.
| QUOTE |
| The designated hitter cannot be used for any other player but the pitcher (however, see below regarding different rules in amateur play). Use of the DH is optional. The manager must designate a DH prior to the start of the game; failure to do so forfeits the right to use the DH, and the pitcher must then take his turn at bat. |
So, as you see, the AL can opt to not use it. But with todays standards, it would never happen, unless you have a pitching staff full of Babe Ruths.
Now, to Santana. I like that Johan loves to hit. I'm for pitchers hitting in both leagues. I think that if you're a defensive liability but can still swing, that you should either hang it up, or work on your D so you're not a liability. I think the DH should be gone from Baseball, and we can maybe restore some balance to the leagues run scoring and lower the AL's ERA by about a half a run.

In the Begining DH rule was placed in 1973 was because pitchers could not hit.And the Orioles back in those days were the only team the pitchers can hit.So they place the DH rule to make it fair everyone can hit.And back in those days Teams Intentionaly walk the 8th hitter to face the number 9 hitter in the line up to get an easy out. So I got one thing to say,,If you can't hit TOUGH!!!! Its part of the game.
