I Think they should. Being Behing the players they get run over when QB passes the ball in their direction.I think they should wear something like a hockey helmet Shoulder Pads,Elbow pads and Knee pads.

how many referees have you ever seen get seriously injured during a game? what would be the poing of making them wear protective gear?

I think players should wear snow coats while they play because sometime when it snows fans throw snowballs onto the field and someone could get seriously injured.

I've never really seen a ref get seriously injured. In baseball sometimes, with wild pitches and broken bats, but not in football. The worst I've seen in football is a ref get hit in the shoulder with the ball.

hockey helmets? are you serious steve?

Stevo, sometimes I question whether or not you should be here.

Then get this gentlemen,,Why is the MLB comminsoner office ordering 3rd Base and First base coaches wear helmets? Doesnt that look retarded? Its Bad enough John Olerud wears a helmet when hes playing 1st base.

I've seen a guy catch a bullet pass to the ear too.

Why even mention Olerud? Do you even know why he wore a helmet? Oh wait, of course you don't, I forgot who I'm talking to.

Olerud wore a helmet in the field because he suffered a brain aneurysm in college. A direct hit to the head from a baseball could kill him.

And helmets on base coaches, in a sport where a hard ball flies at speeds of up to 120 mph and would reach a baseball coach at up to 110 mph, is nothing like what you're advocating. A baseball at 110 mph to an unprotected head can cause death. Nothing, or at least very little in the game of football could kill an official.

So does being run over by a 300LB linebacker in full speed. Thats why NFL Field Unpire should wear a hockey helmet and Pads on Elbows,Knees and Sholders.

A hit from a 300-pound football player traveling at MAYBE 20 mph will not kill an official the way a baseball at 110 mph will. The force from the baseball is all centered on one area while a blow from a player is spread out over a larger surface. Also the football player has the ability to slow down seeing an official in his path. A baseball can't.

No extra pads. But we should instead have them bungee corded above the playing field. Or maybe give them jet packs!

Yeah! Jet packed officials ftw!!!!!!!!1

Holy shit, in that first vid, the broadcasters sound EXACTLY like the Mariners broadcasters. Actually I'm pretty sure one of them is, the lead guy is Dave Sims I'm pretty sure. That's the M's play by play guy. And the other guy sounds like Mike Blowers too, even tho I know that isn't him.
