Even though he's getting up there in age as a prospect, I still think he's major league material. I've always been a fan of big lefties who can throw hard, and Purcey is just that. 6'5", 235lbs with a 95 mph and a plus curveball. He's going to need to speed up his delivery a bit though, even as a lefty he's just asking for people to run all over him.

I still think this kid is going to make an impact with us. He doesn't have the pure stuff to be an ace, but he should be able to slot into our rotation down the road as a solid #3 type of pitcher. His biggest problem right now is staying healthy. He should be in AAA right now, but due to missing so much time he's still stuck in AA. I really like his delivery though, it's very quick and compact. He's kind of a small dude and his fastball lives in the high 80's reaching about 92. Like Purcey (and most lefties for that matter), his second best pitch is his curveball. His great control in college is what made him a "can't miss" prospect coming out of the draft, but we really haven't seen that yet in pro ball. One thing I really like about him though is that he's very intense on the mound, and he's 100% focused with every pitch.

That's like the definition of a power stroke. Just as the ball is approaching his bat goes well behind his head in order to build up more speed as it comes through the strikezone. He actually looks pretty fast for a big guy too. I'm not talking like Alex Rios fast, but he certainly looks a hell of a lot faster than Lyle Overbay or Troy Glaus, which isn't too bad considering he weighs almost 250 lbs.

He's not really a prospect anymore, and we saw plenty of him in 2007 lol.
