Title: Reds released infielder Jorge Cantu.
TheHugeUnit - December 5, 2007 08:10 PM (GMT)
We imagine this means he turned down an offer of a one-year deal. Cantu hit .298/.382/.491 in 57 at-bats for the Reds, but the team didn't want to go to arbitration with him. They'll probably look for another right-handed hitter to serve as reserve infielder. Scott Hatteberg and Joey Votto are both lefties, making a job-sharing arrangement at first base difficult.

Wow, he hit pretty good for them. I thought for sure he'd split time with votto at 1B or even go back to 2nd and have phillips move to SS.

I don't believe Cantu is a one-year wonder, but two teams have already given up on him...

He's rprobably got a poor attitude. I hope he catches a Break somewhere the loosers of Iguchi will rpobably get this guy and be pleasantly surprised

Three points:
1) Jorge Cantu is a really bad middle infielder. He probably costs a team 10-20 runs a year if he's used at second base.
2) Jorge Cantu has a horrible career home/road split. That can indicate a guy who parties too much on the road.
3) Jorge Cantu had a .391 BABIP his rookie year, so a whole lot of his apparent decline as a hitter could just be luck evening out.
