http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...res/265152.htmlLast year I said the mets prospects were overrated, I had heard pelfrey is an ace, humber is an ace, etc. I'm stating right now, Kunz will need TJ within two years.

im really happy with that tyop 5. iffy o kunz but oh well. I was reallly happy with how mulvey played in AA last year and guerra is just awesome. the 2 OF's are great too
TheHugeUnit - November 9, 2007 09:38 PM (GMT)
I like Kevin Mulvey and Gomez. Martinez, like Tabata(just to be fair) value is going down. I don't get why people are high on Guerra.

I guess not, I haven't been all that current with their farm system, but I really hope Martinez can live up to the hype. I know Mulvey has been improving & I can't wait to see Kunz in action. Gomez is my favorite & Guerra is right up there with him. Anything new with Vineyard??

Humber being so low is surprising. What moved him to #7?

They saw him pitch...

Humber will be good...maybe a good #3...I still think Pelfrey can be great, he's got to get his head on straight.
And as for Kunz, I can say the same about Brackman THU

Well first Brackmna had TJ a few monthsago and is already rehabbing. Second Brackman when healthy has a ceiling next to none. Its a top five among all minor league players.

Humber is trash man, Rice ruined him. He used to have a real nice projection because his stuff was good, low to mid 90's fastball, and a devastating curve. Now, its high 80's fastball, with a curve.
Brackman is what, the Yankees 15th prospect? And he has a much higher ceiling anyway.
Pelfrey needs another pitch man. His one pitch is great, but he has nothing else. He keeps trying to spot his fastball all over the place because he can't throw anything else for a strike, which is why his pitch counts are always high and gets knocked out early in games.

Pelfrey has good pitches. His straight fastball can hit 98 and his nasty sinker can hit 94-95. His changeup is a work in progress, but he's got a nice slider that he experimented with the Braves in his 6 IP 1 ER 7k game, and it looked good. It's all in his head. He's got nasty, nasty stuff, but if he gives up a hit or a walk or a run, he's a mess.

Not really. He has a sinking fastball, which is basically just his fastball, that has tons of movement. Now that is a very good pitch. His problem is that, thats his only pitch. Its not like, he has a great fastball, and compliments it with a sinker. He has a sinking fastball, a fastball that moves downward pretty sharply. It just happened to be one pitch, now that is a plus plus pitch, but thats it. If he had a 98 MPH fastball, and a sinker, he would have been better off, but he doesn't. So all the batters do is look for a sinking fastball in certain areas, and lay off all his other pitches, such as the changeup, which is why he throws so many innings. His slider is very inconsistant too, and at this point, I'd say move him to the bullpen. He's a college pitcher who should be ready to contribute by now, and he hasn't. College pitchers who were picked the year after he was picked are dominating on the MLB level in Joba, Lincecum, heck even Kennedy was better than him.

Don't really know what you're talking about...Pelfrey's FB absolutley hits 97-98 with consistancy.
win2day - November 11, 2007 09:49 PM (GMT)
I'm not contesting the velocity. What I'm saying is that he doesn't have a sinker AND a fastball, he has a sinking fastball, which makes it a plus plus pitch. But thats all he has. Its not two pitches, but one, thats why everyone sits on his fastball.
TheHugeUnit - November 11, 2007 10:21 PM (GMT)
Pelfrey isn't that good right now, he needs to add some secondary pitches that can get guys out. As I told the jacket, you can't get away with throwing fastballs all the time. The art of pitching is a guessing game and when you have one real option is becomes an easy game. Its gotten the point where many scouts and writers like Alan Horne more than him, "No contest, Horne" I'm not knocking Horne, since I like him but Horne has never proven anything expect this year and hasn't pitched above Double-A.

I know what you mean...but you need to look at this kid's stuff. His secondary pitches aren't bad. He has no control though. When he's on, like in that Atlanta game, everyone was off balance, chasing the slider in the dirt, in front of the change, and baffled by the sinking fastball. I think LoDuca said it was the best stuff he'd caught since he was with Beckett on the Marlins or someone. I also heard he's working hard to develop a new breaking ball with Peterson this winter.

Of course LoDuca is going to say stuff like that, its when the other team comes back to the bench saying that is when the guy is really on.
You even said he has no control, you can have nasty stuff but without control your going to end up beign a 4th or 5th guy like Cabrera is for the O's.
