Title: What a horrible trade!!!!!!
Mets Rule - January 22, 2006 03:11 AM (GMT)
*supermad* What the heck Minaya???? Benson was great! I don't want a prospect and a bad middle reliver for a solid # 3!?!?!?!?! In case you don't know what im talking about, Kris Benson was traded today for Jorge Julio and John Maine. Talk about crappy!!!

Have to agree with you on that. What was he thinking. I would rather have Benson then Jorge Julio and that other guy

Yeah, doesn't seem too good for the Mets.. Benson's a good guy.

I don't mind this trade. Benson was a decent pitcher who showed some flashes of brilliance, but averaged out as just average. The Mets have a derth of legitimate relievers, while being flush with starters. I see Benson for Julio as a wash. Middle-of-the-pack starter for a middle-of-the-pack reliever
However, Maine could be a diamond in the rough. He is a starter on the cusp of being a major leaguer. His stats in the minors are outstanding, but his stats in the majors are horrible. Bear in mind, though, during his stint last season, he was used on an irregular schedule, and, apart from a cup of coffee in 2004, these were his first major league experiences. I am not so surprised by his five horrific performances as I am impressed by his six solid ones.
I have a feeling that Maine is going to be a big pickup for the Mets. He could well be a solid starter of the future or a big bargaining chip.

Maine could have a good future.

The O's got the better part of the deal
mpic92 - January 22, 2006 06:25 PM (GMT)
Yeah, the Mets could have gotten a little for for Benson.

With all these trades, we are looking at a pretty solid bullpen, unlike last year. My big concern is the starting pitching. With three veterans in Pedro, trachsel, and Glavine, anyone of them could go down at any time and if it is Pedro are we in trouble. I do not want him in the WBC at all!! I sure do not want to rely on Zambrano! We need to be making some moves for pitching but I do not know what or who.

Lol Kris Benson currently has no job.
zackboomer - March 30, 2008 06:03 AM (GMT)
Probably one of the best trades of that year.

Let's not forget, Julio was later shipped off to the Dbacks for Duque. If you factor in Duque's two very solid years, this is anal.

I hated the deal from the beginning. I loved watching John Maine in the minors. They never gave him much of a shot in the majors. I feel like we are doing the same thing with Hayden Penn right now. Just give these guys a shot.
