Wow, I dont think I could name one guy on their pitching staff, yet their pitching was pretty domanant
milehighrox - October 2, 2007 03:21 PM (GMT)
I'm still smiling from ear to ear. CU was wild last night. You'd be hard pressed to find a hallway that wasn't strewn with emptied Coors Light boxes. Awesome, awesome. Rockies pitching isn't bad. We've got the high ERA's due to our home field, but away from Coors, we do fairly well. To name a few standouts: Manny Corpas, who stepped up as our closer this year when our All-Star Brian Fuentes struggled. Brian Fuentes, our All-Star former closer. Matt Herges has been reliable, pitching almost 50 innings with a 3.15, Coors effect included. We got LaTroy Hawkins through free agency to be our setup man. He didn't quite cut it there, but you saw him light up the gun last night. He has got good stuff. He doesn't usually throw 97-98MPH, he was pumped up for the one game playoff. He does consistently stay in the mid 90s though and throws several different pitches. And yeah, Jorge Julio wasn't stellar last night, but he has really gotten it together since being traded to COL from FLA for B.K. Kim. He has pitched around 50 innings with a decent ERA for us. I'll take that over Kim's 5.42 ERA, even with his decent 9-5 record. And then there is Jeremy Affeldt, who we got from K.C. for Ryan Shealy. Affeldt has been one of our most called upon guys out of the pen, and has gotten it done. That is the core. We've got some other guys like Taylor Buchholz, Tom Martin, Ryan Speier, and Mark Redman. A whole slew of September call ups, too. We've got a good pen for the future, with promising guys like Juan Morillo coming up. Rotation of Jeff Francis, Aaron Cook, Josh Fogg, Jason Hirsh, and now Ubaldo Jimenez. Remember some of these names. When Manny Corpas closes out Game 7 of the World Series after 8 shutout innings from Jeff Francis, you can say, "I know these guys, sorta."
And, we all know about Colorado's offense.
We've got the Phillies now. I can't think of a better way to go into the post season. A comeback win in the bottom of the 13th inning off of the all-time saves leader. 6 runs in 6 innings off of the best pitcher in the Major Leagues. An amazing streak of wins in September to put us into contention. So now, we've faced adversity. We've faced the toughest pitching we'll probably ever have to face. The rest of the way will be cake. Let's go Rockies!

Hopefully we see more Rockies fans on DHB, you're the lone Rockie :(

I was so happy last night, but a feeling in the bottom of my stomach said they would come back. Holliday missed the plate to, but oh well. I love this team this year.

Yeah, it's funny. I have seen bandwagon Rockies fans. I thought I'd never see the day. People around here who would normally be donning their Red Sox and Yankees hats are going out to buy Rockies purple pinstripes for this October. It hasn't been easy sticking with this team through more than a decade of defeat. We'll finally get our shot. I couldn't be happier.

I didn't know you went to Colorado U, my friend Terry from my hometown in NJ goes there, I doubt you know him but it'd be pretty cool if you did.
And I'm surprised with all the pitching names you had up there you left out Franklin Morales! He had two great starts against the Padres late in the year including a 1-0 win over Jake Peavy to help the Rox get here. And he's 21.

congrats to the Rockies
holliday didnt touch the plate, but it just makes up for Atkins HR that they called a double

Getting called safe was a make up for the missed HR call. The replays clearly show the ball went over the wall and hit something and came back on to the field.

Yeah and by the way they are playing it won't be too much longer before they get the 0ther 3 wins needed to reach the WS.
YankeesDieHard™ - October 12, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
The Rockies will win the World Series. They are just steamrolling teams left and right. They are the best team in the Bigs.
