The good news is that it apparently was unrelated to the sprained right ankle that had kept Matthews sidelined for 10 games.
Matthews, who was favoring his left leg as he came off the field, was examined by Rangers team physican Dr. Keith Meister and found to have an irritated left knee. He will be reevaluated when the team returns to California for a weekend series in Oakland starting on Friday night.
