SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Diego Padres will be without left fielder Milton Bradley for the final week of the regular season.

According to a source, Bradley tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee after being restrained by manager Bud Black following his ejection from the Padres' 7-3 loss Sunday to Colorado.

The Padres are expected to officially announce Bradley's injury before Monday's game against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

Bradley will not only miss the final seven games of the regular season but the postseason should the Padres advance that far.

Hahahaha, Bud Black! He's got to feel like total shit. I thought it was just another publicity stunt when I saw Bradley go down, but SportsCenter clearly showed his knee buckle and then he just went down.

The umpire sounds like a complete ass, too.

YankeeBaseball2 - September 24, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
wow that umpire is a dickhead.

Milton may have a temper, but I like the guy. From what I've heard, I agree with him and that ump was a fuckin moron to egg him on like that. This really will hurt the Padres, especially if Scott Hairston doesn't produce like he's capable of.

Mike Winters' bio:

Not many MLB umpires matriculated for their bachelor's degree and failed to earn it.

But that wasn't the only incident with Winters this year:

QUOTE
Tigers catcher Ivan Rodriguez doesn't figure to be in the Detroit lineup for today's game against the Mariners.

But that will be by choice of Tigers manager Jim Leyland and not because of Major League Baseball's decision Saturday to suspend Rodriguez for a game for his actions in Thursday's loss to the Mariners at Safeco Field.

"When I take a day off, it will be because my manager gives me a day off," said a defiant Rodriguez. The catcher said he planned to appeal the one-day suspension that was levied after an argument in which MLB officials said he made contact with umpire Mike Winters. Rodriguez was arguing that he had been interfered with by Seattle batter Yuniesky Betancourt while trying to throw out Adrian Beltre on a steal attempt at second.

Rodriguez said he might have barely brushed Winters and that he didn't think the incident warranted being thrown out of Thursday's game — which he was — let alone being suspended for an additional game.

"What happened the other day wasn't right," he said.

(Home plate umpire) Brian Runge said that after Bradley struck out looking to end the fifth, he "flipped the bat about 5-10 feet in front of me."

Bradley said Runge asked him in the eighth if he threw his bat at him.

"I said, 'Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous.' He said, 'Well, it was reported to me by the other umpires that you threw your bat at me.' And I said, 'That's completely ridiculous. I've done a lot of things. I'm trying to turn it around. I would never harm anybody."'

Once on first base, Bradley asked Winters if he told Runge he threw his bat. "He goes, 'Yeah, you did.' I go, 'Are you kidding me? That's completely ridiculous. If I strike out and the inning's over, why are you looking at me? Everything's always about me."'

Then, a fan heckled Winters.

"I pointed to the guy in the crowd, affirming it," Bradley said.

Bradley said Winters responded with a string of expletives.

"That's when I went at him and he kicked me out," Bradley said.

First base coach Bobby Meacham defended Bradley.

"In 26 years of baseball, I can honestly say that's the most disconcerting conversation I have ever heard from an umpire to a player," Meacham said. "It was almost like he wanted to agitate the whole thing. He wanted to get Milton boiling for some reason. Milton, he held his cool. I was just appalled."

Sounds like the ump has serious issues.

We heard Bradley's side of the story, Padres 1B Coach Bobby Meacham, then backed up Bradley's story calling it "...the worst I have ever seen an Umpire speak to a Player"...but where the hell is Todd Helton in all this?

Helton was playing 1B at the time & watched it all happen right in front of him. I am dieing to hear what Helton heard during the incident.

As for Bud Black...he shouldnt feel like shit. I watched the video a few times & clearly, Black was just restraining Bradley as much as needed. Bradley was trying like hell to get in Winter's face, jiving all over the place & Black was nearly spinning Bradley in circles.
