Title: Question
Description: WHIP and ERA

Which is a better stat to tell which pitcher is better?

WHIP isn't that great.

Who's better: A guy who hits a guy, then gives up 2 homeruns in an inning?
Or a guy who gives up a single and a walk in an inning?

They have the same WHIP. I understand the point of WHIP, it's to see who is getting lucky by giving up a couple basehits and then escaping an inning, but I think OPS against is better than WHIP. For offense we don't measure players by W+H/AB.

ERA is a "more better stat."

ERA is better than WHIP.

Most Americans also consider President Bush better than Vice President Cheney, but that's not to be mistaken for an approval rating. ;)
