WASHINGTON (AP) - Nationals starter Tim Redding, who injured his right arm in the third inning Wednesday against the Florida Marlins and was forced to leave the game, will miss a week to 10 days because of an elbow contusion.

Florida's Miguel Cabrera hit a high chopper that Redding tried to field, but couldn't. He fell to the ground and stayed there for several minutes while he was being examined by the Nationals' trainers.

Redding left the field holding his right arm, and was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion. He was replaced by Jonathan Albaladejo, who made his major league debut.

"The elbow pain kind of set in and ran through my whole body," Redding said.

X-rays were negative, and the team said Redding could be ready to return in a week to 10 days.

"Seven-to-10 days is a nice timeframe. We're trying to be optimistic," Redding said. "If I can get back within the timeframe of 10 days, that's unbelievable. I don't want to end the season on that note."

Redding has a 3-3 record with a 3.42 ERA.
