win2day - August 24, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
WTF??????????????????????????????????
I mean c'mon, DFA'd? I know he's bad, but that bad?
TheHugeUnit - August 24, 2007 11:08 PM (GMT)
and you wanted to trade Farnsworth for him?
biggulp - August 24, 2007 11:26 PM (GMT)
im surprised by this, he hasn't been good this year, but hes pitched well in August up until he lost to the reds the other night. I guess this means Soriano is going to close now.
TheHugeUnit - August 25, 2007 12:13 AM (GMT)

TheHugeUnit - August 25, 2007 12:39 AM (GMT)
haha Peter Moylan. Thats the dude who was rated 59 and was hurt for 600 days in the sim league and someone gave him 2 year 2 million contract
detroittigerfan28 - August 25, 2007 12:42 AM (GMT)
i think this is the stupidest thing i've heard. maybe the tigers can pick him up.
TheHugeUnit - August 25, 2007 12:43 AM (GMT)
Seems like he was DFA since he didn't like how he was being used and said something to management.

yeah, this is what andruw had to say:

ST. LOUIS -- Adam Dunn said goodbye to Bob Wickman's 12th-inning fastball on Thursday night, and the Braves said goodbye to Wickman on Friday afternoon. Somewhat surprisingly, the Braves announced Friday that they've designated Wickman for assignment. This wasn't a move made to free up a roster spot. Instead, it's one that essentially puts an end to the veteran closer's days in Atlanta.
"I just want to try something else," said Braves manager Bobby Cox, while seemingly attempting to avoid saying anything negative about Wickman, who posted a 3.92 ERA in 49 appearances and blew six of his 26 save opportunities this year.
While Cox was diplomatic, Andruw Jones provided an indication that Wickman sometimes complained about pitching in non-save situations, like the one he entered in Thursday night's extra-inning loss to the Reds.
By the time the 12th inning arrived Thursday, the only remaining available relievers were Wickman and Oscar Villarreal, who would have pitched every inning that followed the 12th.
"We need guys who want to pitch," Jones said. "If you don't want to pitch you shouldn't be here." |
MrYankee - August 25, 2007 01:04 AM (GMT)
looking at his stast they dont seem THAT bad
braveschopbraves - August 25, 2007 01:28 AM (GMT)
"If it's not a save situation, he was not happy about it," Andruw Jones said. "It's not fair to the team. It's not fair for the manager. The way he was going about this business, separate from everybody.
"We're a team. Everybody has their own attitude. Everybody's got their own feeling about each other. Everybody's got their own way of going about their business. But when we put a uniform on and we're all together, we're all as one. And we need guys who want to go out there and perform."
"He didn't seem real shocked, I don't know," Cox said. "He just said 'Sorry I let you down.' "
Devine, Ascaino up, Prado down

Wow, I'm surprised Wicky actually said that kind of stuff.
But it does seem that some closers just don't perform well if the situation isn't closing out ball games. Some just need to be in the situation they're meant to be.
DaeHan - August 25, 2007 01:49 AM (GMT)
Their bullpen might suck right now, but next year it's going to be pretty scary once Gonzo and Dotel comes back.
J-Zone - August 25, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
I'm surprised that the Braves did this. The timing is questionable since it's late August. But if Wickman was being a cancer in the clubhouse, then it is understandable why this move was made. This reminds of the Shea Hillenbrand situation we had in Toronto last year.
win2day - August 25, 2007 02:21 AM (GMT)
Who cares what Wickman does in the clubhouse, this has adverse effects on my fantasy team, *cries*
He didn't do all that badly this year from his numbers. And yeah, I would trade Farnsworth for anything, anything at all.
Marlinschamps03 - August 25, 2007 02:51 AM (GMT)
Team wasn't a fan of him and he sucked on the road but was pretty much lights out at home, they decided to be done with hhim and let him go. Someone will pick him up.
braveschopbraves - August 25, 2007 04:44 PM (GMT)
Some players were upset when he told ex-teammate Jarrod Saltalamacchia that they'd have a better team if the Braves ended up sending him to the Rangers for Mark Teixeira. In another instance, Wickman infuriated an outfielder when he asked, "Did you lose that in the lights?" after a shallow single fell in the outfield grass.

Wow, that Soriano trade is now pure genius although I would hope Devine gets a legitimate chance.

I know wtf. I just checked my fantasy team and saw he is NA. So whats the deal hes not gonna play no more? I'm screwed though nobody else good is available. I thought Wickman was doing good. I mean what more can you ask for. He saved 20 games, decent era.
