Title: Best season ever in MLB history?
steveox - August 24, 2007 07:37 AM (GMT)
I have to say the best season in MLB History has to be 1951 cause of the giants pennant over the dodgers.
kyyankgrrl - August 24, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
The '98 Yankees - 114 wins - still take my breath away.

Actually, they weren't. The Cubs were ahead 3-0 at the point, and had Alou caught that ball, it would have been 2 outs with a runner on 2nd.
But I do agree, its not really Bartman's fault, it is Gonzalez's fault. He had a tailor made double play ball, and just booted the hell out of it, and the team fell apart. And then lost Game 7 too.
The greatest year was probably 1998 when it actually happened. Obviously looking back now, parts of it are tainted. 2001 was great too, except with a bad ending. But NY coming back in Oakland and then beating Seattle, and that epic World Series with the D-Backs, and kinda reviving the city after the attacks was special.

I agree. Despite the Yanks losing the WS, '01 was a great year. The WS was memorable, "Mr. November" and Luis Gonzales(sp?)"

Actually the Cubs were winning, until Gonzalez and the pitching fell apart after that play, that would have ended the inning and then only three outs away from the WS.

2001 is one of my fav season, such a great world series, and a great reg season for the m's.
1995 epic playoffs for m's.
1997, marlins vs. indians game 7 was classic.
2000 - second postseason series m's won in their history (3-0 sweep vs. the white sox)
The Doctor Is In - September 11, 2007 10:58 PM (GMT)
Are we talking about the MLB or your favorite team?
Jayhawk Bill - September 11, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
1906 Chicago Cubs--116 wins, just 36 losses, and they were kind enough to lose the World Series so that the question of "best season ever" can still be a question.
705 runs scored, 381 runs allowed...the best hitting and pitching in baseball that year.

Depending on how good the playoffs are, it could end up being this year with all the milestones and comeback stories.
