Title: Instant replay for baseball?

Iluvkm15 - August 23, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
Should there be Instant replay for baseball?

I was thinking about this after the bullshit call that was just made against the Red Sox. I think there should be instant replay so that the umps can actually see how horrible they really are.

if there was instant replay it would be ONLY for homeruns and thats it, not balls and strikes or bang/bang plays that ruins the sport in my opinion and the excitement of baseball, but i do however think only on homerun calls whether its fair or foul, fan interference etc. that should have replay available....but im fine with how it is now, its meant for human error y change what aint broke

who was steeling the base?

You mean NFL style instant replay?

I bet if they did that, they'd only show the replay a milion times on the big screen.

I've thought about this a couple times...yeah, in my opinion MLB should get instant replay. If a call is obviously incorrect, a play can be challenged, and overturned if it was obviously an incorrect call. However, it should only be for homeruns (any interference of a fan grabbing it over the wall, fair/foul, etc.), whether a hit ball is fair or foul, or a close call at a base.

Honestly, is there any other reasonable time to use instant replay other than the ones you described above? :P

(Besides strikes and balls.)

Not sure, but I did intentionally leave out balls/strikes.

As long as they don't take it to far.

Yes theyre should be instant replay in baseball. If the NFL,NCAA,NHL,Tennis And Soccer all have instant reply so should baseball. But you cannot review strikes or balls Or an out or safe calls. Or even Balk calls. But you can if the outfielder caught it or trapped it or Fan interferance of any kind or even a fair or foul calls.

kyyankgrrl - August 25, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
But how much longer would it make the games? And if a game goes into extra innings? Not everybody's gonna sit for 5-6 hour games.

steveox - August 25, 2007 07:31 PM (GMT)
I guess you dont remember this

Thats why Frank Robinson when he was american league president fired Rich Garica after that call.
If Instant Replay was in baseball back then the call would been reversed. NFL has instant replay and the game doesnt last 4 hours. Tennis has instant replay and i doersnt last 4 hours and NCAA Basketball has it and the game dont last 3 hours. And the NHL has it and the game doesnt last 4 hours. So it wouldnt bother baseball nether.

I think instant replay should be used in baseball. Not for balls and strike calls, but for outs and calls like fan interference and home runs.
