| The Columbus Blue Jackets and free agent forward Michael Peca have come to terms on a one-year contract. Don Meehan, Peca's agent, confirmed to TSN that the deal will become official pending a physical with the club within the next few days. The 33-year-old had been in talks with the New York Rangers but slow talks hindered the deal. According to the New York Daily News, Peca and Meehan had set a deadline for the Rangers to get a deal done by Tuesday. Peca outlined the talks with the Rangers and explained his interest in the Blue Jackets during the interview with the Columbus Dispatch on Monday. "We had a deal in place with the Rangers for almost three weeks now," Peca told the newspaper. "It just doesn't seem like the commitment has been there from the general manager (Glen Sather) to get it done." "But ever since we started talking with Columbus, (Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson) has been very straight forward and very interested in getting something done. And so right now, that's where our focus is, getting something done with Columbus," said the two-time Selke Trophy winner. Peca battled injuries last season and played in only 35 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs scoring 4 goals, with 11 assists. |
