While appearing on ESPN Radio, ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick reports that the Braves are close to acquiring Jake Peavy from the Padres in exchange for 2B Marcus Giles, RHP Horacio Ramirez and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

I have no link but i've seen it on metsblog and mlbtraderumors.com. Can't find link on espn. but this is the rumors section.

Wow, that'd be a good trade for the Braves AND Padres.

The Padres will basically fill the void for Piazza with Salty, get Peavy's spot to Ramierez (although not the ace spot, just the roster), and get Giles to replace trading tha 2B prospect. And the Braves get pretty much an ace.

Some of the moves the Pads are making don't make much sense to me...if they wanted a good minor league catcher they could have kept Kotteras. I think the Braves get the better end of that deal.

Wow the Pads GM needs to be shot. Cashman needs to offer Andy Phillips and Sean Henn for Limebrink today and tell them to throw in Merideth.

i'll shit my pants if this deal goes down.

Don't joke about that, lol...

Well, um thank god, espn is now denying this trade rumor.

win2day - November 16, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
Actually I think its an ok trade for the Padres.

Giles fills in at 2B
Ramirez, eeeh a 4th or 5 th starter.
And Salty is a great catching prospect.

Peavy is very good, but the Padres may be dealing from a position of strenght here, which is pitching, to fill in 2 holes, 2B and C.

Can the Padres really afford to trade Peavy though? I mean Wells is probably retiring and Woody Williams could be leaving. So they are losing 2 starting pitchers already. If I were the Padres I would hang on to Peavy.

if the Padres were to trade Peavy, they would have to be almost 100% confident they were going to get Zito

Crushed Optimism - November 16, 2006 11:46 PM (GMT)
Haha woah. Peavy... I don't care what the deal is... I'd hesitate to trade him for anything. They need to build their team around him.

NateFizzle - November 17, 2006 12:10 AM (GMT)
They aren't going to trade him. They don't even need a catcher Josh Bard is good enough.
