Mike Piazza, C--San Diego Padres: The Padres have some interest in retaining him, but both sides have agreed to test the market first. The Phils could be a suitor. Three NL clubs and a pair of AL teams have shown interest. Dodgers will have interest if they can deal away Toby Hall.
Bengie Molina, C--Toronto Blue Jays: Rockies interested.
Coco Crisp, CF--Boston Red Sox: Red Sox are not making him available in deals.
Aaron Rowand, CF--Philadelphia Phillies: White Sox interested in bringing him back. They may also have interest in trading for Omar Vizquel. They have been shopping starters Freddy Garcia and Javier Vazquez. Rockies interested in Rowand.
Jamey Carroll, 2B--Colorado Rockies: Rockies discussing a long-term contract with him.
Jason Jennings, RHSP--Colorado Rockies: Rockies shopping him, though they may hold onto him until mid-season when he may potentially have more value. Rockies also discussing a long-term contract extension with him.
Cliff Floyd, LF--New York Mets: There is mutual interest with Baltimore. Mets have made him an offer to re-sign and he is mulling it over. Tigers may have interest.
Rodrigo Lopez, RHSP--Baltimore Orioles: The Orioles are shopping him, but there are conflicting reports over whether or not they would be willing to non-tender him. The D-Backs, Rockies and Brewers have expressed interest. Mets, Yankees, Cardinals, Reds, Padres have previously had interest in him. The Brewers and Orioles have discussed swapping Lopez for Kevin Mench. The Orioles may have more interest in Geoff Jenkins (likely if the Brewers pick up some salary), but their top priority is Carlos Lee.
Dave Roberts, LF--San Diego Padres: The Cubs, Brewers, Braves, Mets, Dodgers, Rockies, White Sox and Giants are among the 13 teams with interest. Roberts likes the idea of signing with those teams, as well. The Padres will not attempt to re-sign him at this point. He is seeking a 3-year, $15M deal. The Brewers will make a strong push to sign him, but will likely be outbid. For that same reason, the Rockies are pursuing Darin Erstad and Jay Payton with more fervor.
Adam Eaton, RHSP--Texas Rangers: Five teams have expressed interest. He is seeking a 3-year, $24M deal and as a Type C free agent, the team signing him would not lose a draft pick. Phillies and Mariners interested.
Juan Pierre, CF--Chicago Cubs: Cubs have attempted to work out an extension with him, but he chose to explore the market and it is now very unlikely that he will return to the Cubs in 2007. Brewers interested. Would love to return to the Marlins, but they have not expressed any interest. The Rockies do not appear interested either. Giants are having successful negotiations with him. He is seeking 3-years, $30M.
Gregg Zaun, C--Toronto Blue Jays: Jays may attempt to re-sign him, but have to make an offer. He would like to return. Royals among a dozen teams that are interested. At least two teams have offered him mulit-year contracts. Red Sox, Cardinals, Rangers and Rockies may have interest. He is likley seeking 2-years, $10M.
Tomo Ohka, RHSP--Milwaukee Brewers: Phils and Mariners interested.
Barry Zito, LHSP--Oakland Athletics: The Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, Rangers, Dodgers, Cardinals, Angels, Padres, Mets and Red Sox are among 12-15 teams that are interested. Mets have made him their top target. He is seeking 7-years, $105M.
Jason Schmidt, RHSP--San Francisco Giants: Yankees interested in him as a Plan B to Matsuzaka. Red Sox, Cubs, Cardinals, Dodgers, Rangers, Mariners and Diamondbacks also among those interested. Mets and Phillies not interested because they doubt he wants to play for them.
Carl Pavano, RHSP--New York Yankees: Yanks have received some trade inquiries. If they were to deal him, they would likely be forced to eat most of his $21M in remaining salary thru 2008. The Rockies are among those interested.
Gil Meche, RHSP--Seattle Mariners: Does not want to talk with the M's until he tests the market. He has received from more than 15 teams, including the Yankees, Red Sox, Jays, Cubs, Orioles, Twins and Mets. He is reportedly among the top choices for a dozen teams, though he could command as high as 4-years, $36M.
Alfonso Soriano, LF--Washington Nationals: One rumor had Soriano rejecting a 5-year, $70M offer from the Nats, earlier in the off-season, but the Nats denied the credibility of the report. He is seeking 6-years, $100Mish. He would also demand a full no-trade clause. The inclusion of a no-trade clause could be a potential road-block with the Nats. Twenty teams were interested in him in July. The Phils and Angels have made him their top target, but the Philsare unwilling to offer a full no-trade clause. They are expected to make a starting offer of 5-years, $80M. The Padres have expressed interest. At least six teams are willing to offer the six years he demands. Phillies have made an opening offer of 5-years, $75Mish. Angels have offered 6-years, $80M.
Dontrelle Willis, LHSP--Florida Marlins: Marlins are not actively shopping him, though they are listening to offers. Mets are interested, but they will not intrigue the Marlins with an offer of Lastings Milledge. However, a young arm like Phillip Humber could potentially make the Marlins consider dealing Willis. The Marlins, however, are shopping Sergio Mitre, Jason Vargas and Yusmeiro Petit.
I expect Cubs to get Roberts, Zito, Soriano, or Meche. One of those guys or maybe they will make a big trade, not free agent pick up. Seems like a productive off season for them. They have to remember to save money for Zambrano to resign him, enless Big Z doesn't want to stay or has some BS clause.
Well they signed DeRosa today. And if he plays anything like he did last year, then that will be a huge pickup for them. Just watch him play the game (Which most people didn't because he played for the Rangers.) This guy is pretty darn good.
