The Red Sox and White Sox were originally nick names. What were the full names of the teams? and which current major league teams did those names belong to?

I'll let you all know when someone gets it right.

I would say your answer of Cincinnatti is half correct- the Red Stockings started out there, but were expelled from baseball, then they moved to Boston, eventually Cincinnatti was allowed to re-join with the Reds

Good job guys

Even thought this thread is alittle old I would like to apologize I should have said who are the original Red Stockings. When Cincinnatti was allowed to get another team it was there AA Red Stockings who took the place of the original Red Stockings who had moved to Boston, so braveschopbraves as I said in another post your answer was half correct when you said the Reds because I wasn't clear on which of the teams I was looking for.

The current Braves franchise played under the nickname "Red Stockings" in Boston. According to The Ball Clubs by Dewey and Acocella, that franchise always played in Boston going back to the National Association days up until the move to Milwaukee.

In 1876, when the NL formed, the current Braves and Reds franchises were part of the original complement of teams.
