TORONTO -- The Blue Jays continued to add pitching depth on Monday, when they signed free-agent reliever Matt Roney and added him to their 40-man roster.

So far this offseason, Toronto has signed two relief pitchers -- Roney and right-hander Jean Machi -- to Major League contracts and four others to Minor League deals, which include invitations to Spring Training. The Jays signed right-handers Geremi Gonzalez, Beau Kemp, Blaine Neal and Brian Wolfe on Friday.

Last season, Roney notched his first innings in the Majors since 2003, posting a 4.50 ERA over three games for Oakland. The 26-year-old spent the majority of the '06 season in Triple-A, where he went 4-3 with a 2.95 ERA and six saves in 47 games for Sacramento.

Before pitching for Oakland, Roney -- a first-round pick by the Rockies in the 1998 First-Year Player Draft -- spent parts of the 2003-05 seasons in Detroit's system. He went 1-9 with a 5.45 ERA over 100 2/3 innings for the Tigers in '03, and then bounced between Double-A and Triple-A over the next two years.
