DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with infielder Kazuo Matsui. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per club policy.
Matsui, 31, combined to hit .267 with 3 home runs and 26 RBI in 70 games with the Mets and Rockies. He hit .345 with 22 runs scored, 2 home runs, 19 RBI, and had a .392 on-base percentage in 32 games with Colorado. Between the two clubs, Matsui was 10-for-11 in steal opportunities, and is 30-for-35 in steal attempts in his career. He was acquired by the Rockies in a June 9th trade and spent nearly 2 ½ months at Triple-A Colorado Springs before making his Rockies debut on August 23 at Milwaukee, becoming the first Japanese position player to appear for Colorado.
Matsui became the first Japanese infielder to sign with a major league team when he signed with the Mets in 2003. He was a seven-time All-Star in Japan and a seven-time member of Japan's Best Nine (1997-2003). In 3 major league seasons, Matsui owns a career .266 batting average with 13 home runs and 94 RBI in 271 games with New York-NL (2004-06) and Colorado (2006).

Wow, looks like the Coors humidifier was off since Matsui got there, because he's actually hitting the ball. He was downright terrible with the Mets. Goes to show how much that ballpark has an effect on stats.

No I doubt it was the ballpark. It may have had some effect but I think he really needed to start over new, because the NY fans wouldn't give him a chance...

Good move but it better be at a low salary. Cause I have a feeling he'll become a nobody if they signed him to a big contract, like he became with the Mets.

I remember Matsui was a MVP in Japan or something....maybe he'll flourish in Coors, it's certainly one of the best hitter's parks around...
