Title: Blue Jays start to shop

Looks like they dunked into the bargain and clearance bins.

-----------------------------

Blue Jays signed RHP Geremi Gonzalez to a minor league contract.

Gonzalez, who split 2006 with the Mets and Brewers and finished with a 5.79 ERA, will be considered for a spot in middle relief or maybe the back of the rotation, depending on how the rest of the winter goes for the Blue Jays. He's not someone who figures to contribute for fantasy purposes.

Beau Kemp-R- Blue Jays Nov. 10 - 9:24 pm et

Blue Jays signed RHP Beau Kemp to a minor league contract.

Kemp, a 26-year-old still looking to make his major league debut, had a 2.32 ERA in 89 1/3 innings for Triple-A Rochester last season. That he struck out just 35 was a problem, but he's an extreme groundball pitcher, opening up the possibility that he could contribute in the majors. Too bad Toronto isn't the best situation for him. The opportunity is there, but the infield defense may not be.

Blaine Neal-R- Blue Jays Nov. 10 - 9:21 pm et

Blue Jays signed RHP Blaine Neal to a minor league contract.

Neal got stuck in Double-A with the Pirates organization last season and wasn't promoted despite a 1.99 ERA in 40 2/3 innings. The former Marlin has always had the talent to be a useful reliever, but he's had elbow and command problems. Maybe he'll join the Toronto pen if he puts together a couple of good months at Triple-A Syracuse.

Brian Wolfe-R- Blue Jays Nov. 10 - 9:19 pm et

Blue Jays re-signed RHP Brian Wolfe to a minor league contract.

Wolfe, who turns 26 this month, is the least likely of any of the seven players the Jays signed today to see any time in the majors with the club. He had a 5.83 ERA while spending most of last season at Double-A New Hampshire.

Chad Mottola-OF- Blue Jays Nov. 10 - 9:15 pm et

Blue Jays re-signed outfielder Chad Mottola to a minor league contract.

Mottola, 35, spent most of July with the Jays and went 4-for-16. Now well past his prime, it's doubtful that he'll get much of an opportunity to win a spot on Toronto's bench.

Jeff Duncan-OF- Blue Jays Nov. 10 - 9:14 pm et

Blue Jays signed outfielder Jeff Duncan to a minor league contract.

Duncan, a former Mets prospect, hit .299/.384/.414 with 21 steals in 278 at-bats for Triple-A Las Vegas last season. He never developed the power he'd need to go along with his on-base skills, so he hasn't received a chance to step in as a reserve outfielder. He'll play for Triple-A Syracuse.

Kevin Barker-DH- Blue Jays Nov. 10 - 9:12 pm et

Blue Jays re-signed first baseman Kevin Barker to a minor league contract.

Barker, 31, hit .275/.379/.480 in 473 at-bats for Triple-A Syracuse before joining the Jays in September, making his first appearance in the majors since 2002. He'll again bat in the middle of Syracuse's lineup.

Barker is just gonna block Cannon's development, I can't say I agree with that. This Duncan guy looks half decent. The rest is trash.

Yeah I'm hoping Cash doesn't sign to many of these kinds I want to see Gardner and Duncan and the other Duncan get a shot a playing. I couldn't stand Long playing last year even though he did good I wanted Sorianoson to get a shot at playing LF. Who knows though you may of just signed a 2005 Aaron Small.
