Indians: The Tribe had tried to corral Garciaparra a year ago, before he signed with the Dodgers. The Indians may try again. They'd prefer landing a corner outfielder to free Ryan Garko to play first but, failing that, reports the Akron Beacon Journal, may look at Garciaparra.
Astros: Their new one-year deal with franchise icon Craig Biggio could be announced by Friday. Both sides are eager for that, to eliminate any need for the career Astro to even file for free agency before Saturday's deadline. Biggio is expected to play a 20th season in Houston for about $5 million.
Angels: The Halos are expected to make a quick decision on a replacement for Black as pitching coach. Leading candidates include Charles Nagy, the former Indians ace who was the organization's Triple-A pitching coach last season, and former Dodgers and Red Sox pitching coach Dave Wallace.
Tigers: Detroit is showing interest in bringing back veteran utilityman Frank Catalanotto, who began his career with the 1997-99 Tigers. Catalanotto batted .300 for Toronto in 2006, his second straight .300 season.
