Strickland signs with Padres

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Scott Strickland, a right-hander who pitched in the minor leagues last season, signed a $550,000, one-year contract with the San Diego Padres on Thursday.

He can earn another $50,000 by pitching in 70 games.

The 30-year-old Strickland was 5-2 with five saves and a 2.09 ERA in 53 games this season for the Indianapolis Indians, Pittsburgh's Triple-A affiliate.

In parts of six big league seasons, he's 12-21 with 20 saves and a 3.34 ERA with Montreal, the New York Mets and Houston Astros.

If he can control his injuries, then he might see some MLB time, if not a lot.

Good addition? Maybe? It doesn't matter I like our bullpen, a manager, a hitter or two, another SP, are what I'm worried about getting.
