Title: Adam Lind DHing

sidthekid87 - October 25, 2006 08:01 PM (GMT)
It is no secret that Lind impressed at the plate this past year in the majors, btu the fact remains that he isn not at the major league level in the field...but with the outfield basically set and Cat prolly moving on, we are in need of a DH. Lind owuld fill this role, but this could be a big gamble on a team that has a good shot to make the post season again.

What are your thoughts on having a 23 y-o DHing for the big team?

jaysdude09 - October 25, 2006 08:05 PM (GMT)
I love the idea personally but I dunno who said it, rockshu or hank that he should start the year off in the minors. Well, i agree with that because I don't want this kid to hit a brick wall in 07 because most likely pitchers would have made some adjustments to this guy after April so he'll be less successful, so his morale and confidence and stuff will be low.

If we start him in Triple A, he'll murder the ball like he usually does and then we can bring him up when he was loosened up and has gotten slowly into season mode and the after effects of the offseason ware off.

Rockshu - October 25, 2006 08:35 PM (GMT)
I know I said that JD, Hank may have said it too but who understands his gibberish. But yeah, I still think we should start Lind in AAA and have an old guy (preferably Thomas, but who knows) starting at DH. I want to see Lind full time in Toronto next year (2008). You don't normally send a kid (basically) from a whole year in AA to starting in MLB. You just don't. That's my 2 cents.

I heard Thomas wants to stay with the A's...

He's not on roids lol. He hit 29HR in 05 because he plays in Texas and its an extrememly nice play to play if your LH.

In 06, if he got anywhere between 500-550 AB, he would easily hit 25+HR. He got his average up last year and he's always been a guy with a solid OBP.

sidthekid87 - October 25, 2006 09:48 PM (GMT)
i love delucit too..but the way i see it is...if he lights up preseason you can't deny him or that may hurt his moral..wondering what it would take to break the big clubs roster

Well, free agency is before spring training, so we'll have to wait and see how JP approaches the DH subject at the winter meetings.

Hunt - October 25, 2006 09:57 PM (GMT)
I want to see what he does in Spring Trainning and go from there. If the kid does well I'd love to see him full time!

If we don't manage to resing Wells then will we get Cat?

jaysdude09 - October 25, 2006 10:01 PM (GMT)
I think David Delluci is a option if Wells is traded because Delluci would fill the power void somewhat.

Hunt - October 25, 2006 10:09 PM (GMT)
You love Delluci don't you... :P

But seriously, if we don't resign Wells we could look at Delucci. Does Delucci play for the mets... or am I thinking of LaDuca?

Anways, I heard somewhere that the Phillies are trying to resign Dellucci.

I see, I like Rockshu's idea of Thomas. That would be sweet a sweet signing for Toronto!

Or dare I say... both? :P

Don't let Rockshu's ideas get into your head, we're not getting Thomas lol

Hey, hey, Rocky you're handcuffed here. Either you get Lind starting at DH, or you resign Cat. You can't stick another guy like Frank Thomas or Dave Roberts into the equation.

I can and I will. Mark my words, come spring training 2007...

Vernon will still be a Blue Jay.
Thomas will be a Blue Jay.
Lind will be a Skychief.
Cat will be a Met.

Okay. I'd be really shocked if you go 4 for 4. I'd say maybe 1 for 4.

I don't mind guarantees like this. I mean I had somebody tell me either Alex Steen or Mats Stajan would be an 100 point All Star.

Hahaha, I said Wolski and Hejduk would both score 40 goals... people called me retarded, but 30+ is a definete possibility, so I'm not gonna be that far off.

I say it was a good move to trade Alex Tanguay ASAP even if you are going to get some mediocre defenceman lke Jordan Leopold

Untouchable - October 28, 2006 09:12 PM (GMT)
Lind may be a decient player but DH should be a great batter with no defence.. Lets see. Frank Thomas, Barry Bands, Mike Piazza, Jim Thome, Edgar Martinez. and other players that are older and more experienced.

Jays should sign Frank Thomas for 1 year 1.5 mil

I think it'll take at least a base salary of $2.75 to begin a conversation.

I think the idea i sdumb because you can sign a more powerful, useful player than that. If I were the Jays I would go out and try to get someone.

Like who? We can't afford Lee or Soriano....

Rockshu - October 29, 2006 02:59 AM (GMT)
Honestly, I think Lind is good enough to play DH. The thing is, once he hits his first slump, the entire country is going to be all over him, Gibbons, and JP for not getting someone proven. That can be seriously demoralizing for a kid. Keep in mind, he played 80% of the year in AA last year. He has less than a month of AAA under his belt. Basically, if you expect him to put up numbers over a whole year similar to those he put up in September, then for everyone's sake, ask for him to be in Syracuse, because he's not gonna do it.
