Just out of curiosity, does your school require you to perform a certain amount of Community Service in order to graduate from H.S.?

Element - October 15, 2006 09:21 PM (GMT)

No, but it is recemended if you want to get into a godd college.

KillerB's - October 15, 2006 09:25 PM (GMT)
My private school religion class required 6 hours every 9 weeks, but that wasn't mandatory to graduate. And the most community service that may get done at my public school would be the students going to jail and picking up trash on the side of the road.

terrorist of sports - October 15, 2006 09:44 PM (GMT)
no, but its needed for things like class president, peer leadership, maybe honor society and maybe advanced regents diploma. I know its looked highly upon by my principal, and its easy to do when you have 3 floods in your town in the last 2 years.

mpic92 - October 15, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)

When I was in High school I had to do 40 hours community service... it's required to get your diploma in the province of Ontario...

Rockshu - October 16, 2006 01:15 PM (GMT)
Hahaha, no community service for me!

NateFizzle - October 16, 2006 09:25 PM (GMT)
They call is "service learning", and usually you do your service learning for the year in a specific class where everybody does the same thing like last year we had to job shadow.

goredsox1211 - October 17, 2006 12:57 AM (GMT)
I needed 15 hours to graduate. And I did 0 lol. I'm scared one day someone is gonna tell me I'm gonna have to take your diploma away. I seriously don't know how I got away with it. Guess they don't take it serious.

KillerK - October 17, 2006 01:02 AM (GMT)
No but its needed to get into clubs like National Honor Society.

Madness - October 17, 2006 01:13 AM (GMT)

MrYankee - October 17, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)

Man, some people from my highschool who had a 65 average got accepted to various universities. It's not hard. Mind you, they're going to fail miserably once they get there, but still, getting accepted isn't hard if you have the money. Now, if you don't have the money, then getting amazing grades and community service are crucial towards getting scholarships. But just to get accepted, not a problem.

Maybe the universities strickness of acceptance varies from province to province because I've heard you need like an averaage very close to or over a 90 to get into the better universities..

Yeah, but if you want to get into a good college, or have a lot of it paid by scholarships you have to do real well and do a lot of community service.

at the university here... you need a 70% overage or better in University courses you take in high school. Or you could go the route I m going... and go to college before heading into University. All you need is a 3.5 GPA to get into University. not that hard at all.

win2day - October 18, 2006 05:44 PM (GMT)
I had to do 50 hrs to graduate here in New Rochelle.

But I was in the National Honors Society, National Honor Roll, and all that, and didn't even attend their meetings, but I still got the medals, :D

soxfan#1 - October 19, 2006 01:44 PM (GMT)
