Title: The Board Battle and posting party...
Description: is it a good idea

sidthekid87 - January 10, 2006 06:03 AM (GMT)
please state your reasoning when choosing a poll question..this could result in a huge jump in membership, but most would end up becoming non-active due to just stopping by to say hi. a way to combat this is to only allow posting in the battle section after attaining 10 posts. A way that Cadillac thought we may be able to keep some of these new members is to at the same time hold a posting party where all of our memberws come on at one time one night, all night,so that the people coming over to vote see that we ahve a majorly active forum...post your thoughts...this thread will be open for a long time..feel free to debate openly.

it won't be an all nighter or nething..just a couple hours where we encourage all of the members to come on...so we look really active.

BigPapi06 - January 10, 2006 06:09 AM (GMT)
I really don't think it's a bad idea. It's just that I don't really know if I could commit to being online during that time. It would have to depend on when it will be taking place. I will be away for 2 seperate weeks in March, so I won't be online @ all during those weeks.

sidthekid87 - January 10, 2006 06:11 AM (GMT)
yea..the date is something that we will ahve to discuss as well...the reality is it will boost our membership but are they the mebers we want?

We really need completely active members (that are not fans of the Red Sox, Yankees or Blue Jays).

win2day - January 10, 2006 06:18 AM (GMT)
I would vote yes........depending on a couple of factors. How would the voting be moderated? With the voting, would there be a poll or just posting like the one where we took part in? If someone accuses a particular team or board of cheating, how do we look into the problem?

I like the idea of having a board competition merely for the fact that yes it will increase board membership. Now we don't need ALL of them to stay, but even if half or a quarter of them stay, it is worth it. I know there would be people that just post here and go so to counteract that yes the number of posts would be a good idea. But here is the problem I see with the number of post idea. Remember when someone accussed us of voting twice, we countered that the person only had one post? Well what if the requirement has 10 votes, won't we be forced to go and find posts by the person and count them? I think maybe we should have them list like 5 things they like/hate about this site along with their vote, so maybe that would entice them to atleast look around. I think the board is good enough that if they are willing to look around, then they will most likely like it.

If this is going to be conducted the exact same way that Absolute Sports did it, then I vote "NO".

BigPapi06 - January 10, 2006 06:20 AM (GMT)
It better not be run the same way that Absolute Sports had theirs.

win2day - January 10, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
Thats what I say too, but what can we do to make ours different?

win2day - January 10, 2006 06:26 AM (GMT)
I don't know about a "posting party" though, especially all night.

vivjeter - January 10, 2006 06:45 AM (GMT)
I not sure about posting all night. However, if we do have a board battle, votes should be final. There were problems with people changing their votes in the other battles.

sidthekid87 - January 10, 2006 06:46 AM (GMT)
well it wouldnt be all night...like a 7-11 sorta thing..jsut so that wehn they come they see a very active board

BigPapi06 - January 10, 2006 07:03 AM (GMT)
Sid:

Will it be run the same way Absolute Sports had theirs? If so, I would definitely have to vote no.

sidthekid87 - January 10, 2006 07:48 AM (GMT)
no there will be changes...we will have many discussions about how to do it our way...cadillac has a lot of good ideas...

amped3 - January 10, 2006 01:45 PM (GMT)
My vote: yes

We will have most of our staff here hopefully for the voting night(s) so we could split up and let the Global Mods monitor the site with the admin while the regular mods go out and look out their forums and see how many people/ possible votes they have and junk.

We could make it to where when you register here, you can't PM anyone so there wouldn't be any PM advertising, but when they reach 20 posts, promote them to a regular member to allow the PMs for them.

We could also make it to where it takes atleast 10 posts to vote. We could also make it to where only the members of their respective site can vote and not anyone else so we would know if people cheated if they have more votes than members.

sidthekid87 - January 10, 2006 03:38 PM (GMT)
see..cadillac has a lot of great ideas...there are ways to control it...

nath87 - January 10, 2006 07:13 PM (GMT)
I vote yes for all of the previous things that were stated in other posts. It will take some coordinating to do, but it can be done.

Bball forums recently hosted one that was able to be civil, but that may have have due because YNG isn't a member there.

TheHugeUnit - January 10, 2006 07:36 PM (GMT)
Are you going to have a rule that you have to have at least 10 posts before you can vote?

bosoxdiehard - January 10, 2006 07:40 PM (GMT)
Maybe five posts.

If this thing does go on then I guess 16 forums, and three rounds.

sidthekid87 - January 10, 2006 08:30 PM (GMT)
yea makes sense..i just hope we arent tarnished form the last "incident"

amped3 - January 10, 2006 09:14 PM (GMT)
We could discuss the awards for the winner and the date of the party and voting in another thread if this goes through the community.

I agree 100% You'll end up with a bunch of members with 10 posts. Also sig advertisments would go thorugh the roof. And spam will increase to get the 10 posts.
